These metal strainers are not optimal. If they get a little clogged, a bubble action happens under the rim causing it to pop up and everything goes in the drain anyway. Plus they really get groatty real quick.
I bought a really nice rubber one on Amazon that stays in place and is easy to clean. Plus, it’s a real nice gret color.

I bought this almost two weeks ago from Amazon . Haven’t experienced anything similar. Didn’t see anything in any of the reviews reporting anything similar either. Maybe your metal strainer was of a different design?
My previous strainer with mesh instead of holes also did not suffer from any such deficiencies except getting a little stained on the underside. However, that was cleaned up in less than a minute with a green sponge.
While woot may have not had the best deal, this has been a good strainer so far. Kinda wish it wasn’t a two pack cause I only need one right now but hey, now I’ve got a great housewarming gift for someone I don’t really like all that much!
I’ve gone through many metal strainers. Never fully liked any of them. But I LOVE my rubber strainer!
BTW, this goes for the bathtub too. The mushroom works great to catch hair, but the metal one isnt as good. Hard to clean. I buy the softer rubber ones.
