Klein Tools CL800 Digital Clamp Meter

Klein Tools CL800 Digital Clamp Meter

I’ve owned this CL800 kit for about three years. It has been a great tool, durable and feels solid. I also have an “old dog” Fluke model 87, a tank of a DVOM, that simply will not die. The Fluke (from when all Flukes were made in the US) is much more expensive, but I now reach for this CL800 more frequently.

Whatever DVOM you buy, you want a “True RMS” meter like this CL800 - it’s the only way you’ll get accurate AC voltage readings.

Klein’s model compare feature on their site is useless - a lot of the features of the CL800 are not shown. From a glance, the main differences between the CL710, CL800, and CL810 models being sold here:

  • all are True RMS meters

  • all have the pouches and leads

  • all would be great to own

  • 710 & 810 have reverse image displays, supposedly readable in more situations. (I believe all three are backlit) I’ve had no readability issues with the traditional LCD display on the CL800.

  • 710 & 810 have backlighting behind the settings icons

  • 800 & 810 have work lights to focus in the target area

  • 800 & 810 add temperature sensors

  • 710 does not do DC clamp current

  • 810 adds DC micro-current.

I paid $110 thru Amazon for the CL800 three years ago so this $100 price seems solid.

The CL710 at $90 does not represent a good value vs the CL800.

You’d have to decide whether the CL810 $110 DC micro-current is worth the upcharge for your use cases. If I were buying again, I’d probably go with the CL810 for only $10 more. It was not available when I bought.

Friggen thank you for the sanity check on everything!

Will wait on a deal for a CL810 or comparable.

They sent me the wrong product. I ordered the Klein Tools CL800, and root shipped me the cheaper non-temperature measuring CL710. Now we were sold out and I got a product that I don’t want. I’m pissed about it.

I’m sorry. Reach out to customer service and tell them that you would like a replacement. They can check with the vendor to see if they have inventory.

Please allow 24-48h for them to respond.
