I remember buying one of these like 23 years ago for around $150 to $175 at Best buy. I was so impressed with the great bass I bought a second unit five years later with better designed cables that went bad on the first unit.
I have this set. If you’re on the fence at all, buy it. The sound is powerful and rich for such small speakers. You will not be disappointed. I have many speaker systems and this is my favorite for my office setup.
These truly are great speakers. I’ve enjoyed them for the past ~3 years since I bought them from Walmart for ~$80.
$109 is a bit steep, and only twelve bucks off the current going rate. If you’re in the market, go for it, but inflation is a PITA.
For the size of the speakers, they seem to have a good bit of power. The THX reminds me of that terrible sound though.
These little speakers seriously rock! I’ve had them for about three years and they are awesome for what they are. They seriously have some juice to them.
Like everyone else, cannot recommend these enough. Something that I think gets underestimated about higher-end systems like these is how good they sound at lower volumes. The bass response even at lower volumes is still really nice so you don’t need to crank them to get that full-bodied sound, but they also hold their clarity when you turn them up; it’s the best of both worlds!
I will be a dissenter here … I’m VERY disappointed with this set and the price isn’t that great compared to other sales prices.
I replaced a nearly 20 year old set of the Pro-media GMX 2.1 with these, and there is no comparison.
The sub weighs less than 1/2 of the old one, there is little to no bass.
These are so bad I,m trying to rebuild the pod of my old ones which is the only reason I replaced them.
That terrible sound is amazing on THX-Certified speakers though.
I don’t have these, but have had the Altec Lansing 4.1 set back in the early 2000s and currently a few sets of the Logitech 5.1 and 2.1 versions now, and unless these are a new release since Razor bought the THX brand from Lucasfilm and if they’ve screwed it up somehow, these should be very well worth the money even at regular price.
One thing to consider is that you’re unlikely to get any noise or interference from your cell phone with these like you’ll get with the old cheap amplified computer speakers you’ve been able to buy since the 90s. THX-Certified speakers are properly shielded and won’t do that. For me, that alone is worth this price.
How did you have these 23 years ago when the spec sheet says they’ve only been making them since 2018?
2018 was probably the last time the copyright was updated because there’s a 13 year old YouTube review from 2009 on the wireless version of these same speakers
The spec sheet literally says “built from 2018”. Odd.
I’m pretty sure in 2018 there must have been some design change because I’ve been using this style of PC speakers for years. This video dates back to 2013 (going for $150 back then) on how to fix the static noise coming from bad contacts on the volume knob. These speakers are notorious for this issue which is one of their flaws that maybe they fixed in 2018.
