Kodak EasyShare 12MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom

[QUOTE=cffrench, post:100, topic:300289]
Taking a chance, it’s a great name brand and it’s my mom’s first digital P & S and easy share makes it very easy for a first time digital camera user. Can’t really go wrong for the price. After all, seems like someone needs to be positive in this sea of camera bashing!

Exactly. Seems like a simple point and shoot. Bought it for my mom for christmas. Woot, almost done with christmas shopping !

That brand name is an illusion of what it once was.

Even at its height, Kodak was more of a casual brand than one favored by photography enthusiasts. They were known for no-frills fixed-focus point-and-shoots that no serious photographer would use. Kodak’s true claim to fame is their film. As such, I’m not surprised that their cameras aren’t great since they have no experience in making good ones.

Kodak Instamatic circa 1972

I’ve owned many camera’s including a kodak, cannon elf, cannon eos, and cannon rebel. You get what you pay for. The only good thing about the kodak I had was the ease of use. There weren’t a bunch of crazy menus with crap I’ll never use. Pretty much one button Point and shoot. I don’t know if they have changed but it was perfect for the non tech savy. Rechargeable battery is a plus, a lot of cameras take AA batteries.

Sshhhh, Yeah, great camera…

One day poot? Still great camera…Nothing to see here people, move on…

Hey, hey, hey now! We have the most wonderful customer service ever!

To get off subject just a bit… I think it’s about time for another Woot-Off!.. Looking forward to midnight!

Not a bad price, but will stick with my 14mp Kodak that shoots HD.

What in the heck did you expect for $5? Sometimes I get it in 8 days, sometimes 4. If you want a good deal AND cheap shipping, then you will have to put up with delays. If you don’t want to put up with shipping delays, shop somewhere else and most likley pay more. Their slow shipping isn’t hurting business, so don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

How do you know one starts at midnight? I must know where you get your info, wonderous one.

I just have a feeling… I hope I’m right…

I would think they would do it on Black Friday. I don’t know what they did last year for Black Friday, so I am sure I could be wrong.

I have owned several Kodak P&S cameras. My favorite was the EasyShare V603. After it finally gave up charging or holding a charge, I retired it. I purchased and returned several newer models including this 550. I teach preschool and let me tell you I need FAST! Three and four year olds don’t hold poses. This camera was not good in low light and also would have to pause to save pictures after just a few. I currently switch between my canonSD790, which is ok, and my newer Kodak Z915. The 915 is actually great. Much larger than the 550 but I am looking for quality in my photos.
I would give this one a pass. There are better Kodaks out there. And YES Kodak does make some quality cameras. I just wish my old V603 still worked. It was AMAZING.

If the Walmart camera only has 3X zoom, then it’s not the same camera. In most ways, this is an average camera – the most special thing about it is its 5X optical zoom, which many point-and-shoots costing three times as much don’t have.

The Walmart camera is a different model, C series, they use AA/NiMH batteries as opposed to the LiIon in this camera - also lesser lens.

While I certainly agree, to be fair:

Kodak Retina circa 1957 (okay - it ain’t no Nikon F)

Does anyone know if they carry this camera in Dutch Boy Ivory? The lens itself would need to be close to the same color, as i am setting up a surveillance system in my bathroom. It is of the utmost importance that my guests not know that they are being filmed.

that’s the funniest thing I read today

For what it’s worth:
Last three woot-offs started August 18, September 20, October 21.
Last year: November 18, December 8.

No truer words were ever spoken.

Kodak is now synonymous with crap(when it comes to cameras, at least). I bought this camera from Woot and sent it back two times and each time it still did the same thing when it returned. (Battery would drain in minutes) They refused to replace it under any circumstances, they only allow you to mail it back again to the same fly by night company(non-Kodak) to “repair”(or not) these cameras. They have no US presence for customer service. I swore from that moment on I would never buy another Kodak product again.

Add the word “refurbished” and you have yourself a top shelf piece of junk. I feel sorry for the Christmas gift recipients from today’s woot offer, I hope I am not one of them. If you love the person you are gifting, do not give them this camera.
