After my “refurb” Roomba died- exactly after 3 months of buying it (just missed warranty period) I swore not to buy refurb again.
I want this one so bad, but naaah, I’ll pass
All I have owned are Kodak cameras (except a Sony Mavica, which saved the pictures to floppy discs), and they were pretty good basic cameras. Great for taking eBay pictures!
From my lose internet seaching the average internet price is about $130 (USD)

I think that seeing it on an article called “DONT BUY THESE GADGETS” might be adequate enough for me to justify not buying it. Awful shame, I saw Kodak and thought I had found a steal.
pcmag says don’t buy it.
I don’t think I will

EDIT:
Late to the party by two posts.
oh well
I have this. The shutter speed is slow and the program from Kodak for transferring to my computer is VERY annoying. On the other hand it takes good pictures with good color quality compared to others I have used. Downloading pictures directly to the Kodak printer is easy and the ink is inexpensive. Decent beginning digital and it is so small I carry it in an extra glasses container I have. I must say I use it much more than my bigger, heavier Olympus.
Drat! I was like going to totally order three white ones, but my browswer won’t show that one color. Oh well, maybe next time.
Seriously, is Kodak any good at digital? I might be in. For coffee.
does anyone know where/if I can get parts for this cammera?
I broke my LCD screen ![]()
I would be so in for one if only if it wasn’t reburb =(

I wanted a white one, but the order page won’t let me choose it ![]()
Oh well, I guess I will pass then.

It cuts off on the options list. You can tab your way to the unseen white option.

mine is broke too. (darn dog) saw a bunch of parts cameras on ebay.
Odd, Firefox isn’t allowing the button to choose the white camera to show up. Resolution is set at 1024 X 768.
It shows up ok for Internet Explorer though, at the same resolution.
Kodak isnt what it used to be. Nice price, 10mp, but caveat emptor.
Beware of this camera

this is the link from bestbuy
My dad just bought this BRAND NEW at some office store (Office Depot or OfficeMax? or maybe it was Target? I Can’t remember) for only $99!!
Last Xmas season I bought 4 Kodak digicams as presents. 2 for sending to the UK for family, and 2 for giving to my kids (5 and 8 yrs old). I got the c613 and m853. They are both similar to these woot cameras. One took (2) AA batteries and one (m753) took a kodak only lithium ion. Downside to Kodak battery (or any vendor specific one ) is it must be charged in camera (USB for the Kodak) or in a separate battery charger. You also need to get at least one spare, as you will never find it if you are out and use up your battery (You could buy AA anywhere in a pinch). I do not see this a huge issue, as the generic camera specific batteries are cheap and plentiful on ebay. Many ebay kits come with a pair of batteries and with a cheap standalone charger (AC and or Car).
The REAL issue is QUALITY. The kodak consumer cameras are terrible quality compared to any low level Canon camera (a benchmark I will refer to). Megapixels be damned, Kodak uses such high Jpeg compression with the shot the large megapixel sensors take, the 8 megapixel shots will be lousy compared to a much older 3 megapixel shot camera of decent make. For example, the m753 (7meg) cameras I got for $90 (target black Friday 2007) end up taking pictures that are about only a half a megabyte at the highest quality setting and largest picture size (8.1 meg). My 7 year old Canon Pro90IS 3.1 megapixel camera pictures are so far superior to anything I have gotten from the Kodaks, it makes my head spin. To think that 7 years of digicam evolution and these can’t touch it is amazing. If I compare the pictures I get from my newer (3 yr old) 7 meg Canon camera, it’s also a stunning (and sad for Kodak) comparison. The Canon pictures set to max size and sharpness are about 2.5-3 megs in size. I feel strongly this is a big reason the Kodak pictures are so bad. Way back, while consumers were ignorant (some still are) digicam makers used heavy in camera compression so they could boast MORE Picuris from their camera on a given memory card size. Back then camera memory was expensive, so many consumers would look at this (except ‘prosumers’ who looked for the opposite) and think it was a good thing. Today camera memory is blindingly cheap. a 2 gig SD card in my m853 will take 1750 pictures at the ‘8meg’ setting. I am sure everybody needs to be able to take 1750 shots before they get back to their PC to download them. Good luck even taking 200 (without flash) before having to recharge it. If I set the size to 1.2 megs I can take 8100 pictures on one memory card… Do you all get this? It was stupid of Kodak’s engineering team (or whatever vendor/designer in China) to do this.
So, you are asking, why do some people give “I like the camera” reviews? Well, many reasons. Some have only really looked at the pictures using the screen on the back of the camera. All pictures are going to look great on a 2" screen. It is just when you do (or hope to) get that ‘one in a million’ shot that is perfect, when you print it out in anything larger than 4x6 you are going to be bummed… There will be NO confusion that the picture was NOT taken by a real photographer. It will be grainy and ‘noisy’ in areas that should be smooth. Every holiday I manage to get ‘one shot’ that is perfect to send out of my kids to family/friends. I usually take the shot with my Canon G6 and an external flash (speedlite 420EX). Some of these shots have been good enough to have most people wonder if they were ‘pro’ shots (I was lucky, there were 100 shots that stunk! that wuz teh funneh). Yes someone may be able to get ‘just the shot’ for a demo shot for these camera for kodak’s website samples etc, but they will all be outside ‘busy’ shots to hide the poor ability of these cameras. Forget taking ‘printable’ indoor shots, they are so grainy that they are only useful for insurance documentation of what you own.
Why did I keep the Kodak cameras I bought? Well 2 went overseas to the UK, and they are good starter cameras for those people who are just learning (and I had not seen how bad these cameras were yet). As far as the two I have in front of me now, I really needed to have something to give the kids for xmas, as they both desperately wanted ‘their own’ cameras. I wish I had bought similar priced MUCH OLDER used Canon “A” series camera on ebay, I know I would have been much more satisfied. The kids rarely get a good photo indoors with these cameras (and nor can I, so it is not just them either, it is the camera).
So, what has this got to do with WOOT!
This ‘deal’ is great, I wish I had snagged it last xmas, as I paid more than double per pair for the ones I got. I would have LOVED to give my kids cameras for the $40 range, instead of the $100 (after buying memory).
I will give a little credit where it is due. They are simple to use cameras. When I go to home depot, I toss one in my pocket so I can take a quick picture of anything interesting I see to show the wife later (I would not be able to drag her to a home depot unless a very nice dinner out followed the traumatic event! So, yes, for a ‘cheap’ little camera they are useful, and great at this price, but for what I paid I am still wishing I had returned them and waited for a deal on a low end Canon etc.
If I were not already ‘stuck’ with the two I have, I would have indeed snagged one or two pairs from woot (again for my kids or wife’s pocketbook). In fairness this is also a decent price point to keep one as a spare in your car like you might a disposable camera, for taking pics at an unexpected accident or something. If I am going to take ‘pictures’ that I might care about I would never consider this camera (family trip, group photo etc), but for kids to learn it is far better than all the cameras they make for kids. I looked last fall and all the ‘kid’ cameras were $50 plus bucks and were no better than a cheap cell phone in quality. This is not THAT bad.
Just do NOT expect these type cameras to be the only camera you will ever need, unless you plan to be a terrible photographer. I have recommended Canon to any who ask me and not one person who got one (Canon) was disappointed. I agree with the fellow above who ranked > Canon, Nikon, Kodak or something similar. I would only say there are MANY brands that are better than Kodak consumer digicams (I have no experience but am certain Kodak Professional stuff is a whole different level, and is good stuff, not related to this review by me). I am sure anything from: Olympus, Minolta, Fuji, Panasonic, Casio, Nikon, Pentax, Sony will be quite decent as these companies are KNOWN camera makers, not just labels slapped on junk from China.
Brands to AVOID are, in order of avoidance: Polariod (just a name now sold to the highest bidder), Kodak (consumer line is very low level china stuff) and HP (they make impressive stuff like high end medical equipment and other high tech stuff but) they slap their name on lower end camera offerings made for them by a similar to Kodak china maker…
If you have never heard of the brand, do not buy it, chances are 99 percent that it will be ‘dollar store’ junk. A good test is to see what things go for USED in a brand on ebay. I could constantly not touch a used Canon camera on Ebay for much under $100, and finally gave up in annoyance! If you ever see a polariod digicam on ebay next year or later, bet it goes for next to nothing.
Nice job if you have had the patience to read my whole first woot post, was it too long, too much info!

Nice Obama reference there.

Which message?
When I worked at circuit city the Kodaks were the only cameras I saw returned.
UPDATE on Kodak camera:
Well, we had the first failure last week. The one my son has will not retract the lens. The lens is stuck about half way, and once the camera is turned on it never displays anything. It does make the welcome sound on startup, but then obviously fails its self test and stops. Hooking it up to the PC I was able to get all the pictures it took off. All 153 pictures since Xmas. The camera was not dropped, and is in mint condition. The only thing I think may have happened is the battery (proprietary) got low and the lens got stuck going in in a low power condition? Of course I have charged it, but the lens is stuck and will not move either way. My son is bummed, and so am I. I really wish I had spent these funds on far superior USED Canon cameras (from ebay etc). Very dissapointing. Now I will hve to send it back to Kodak and see how ‘that’ goes. Bought this at Target, if it were a decent customer service store I would bring it back and be done with it. My wife says Target won’t give you the time of day, and demand you deal with Kodak on any issues ‘once’ you break the box seal…
