I’m more than a little angry that Woot was still selling these things as recently as a few weeks ago without clearly explaining that it doesn’t actually work as it was advertised - there is a disclaimer now, but it wasn’t there when I purchased it!
I spent hours trying to figure out the problem (and thanks also to Kwikset, for not having any tech support on a Sunday, when people who work normal hours might be trying to install this garbage!), until I finally looked at the Woot reviews only to find it isn’t compatible with my phone or just about anything else.
Here’s the “OK, fine!” part - I do have an Echo Plus, and after moving it temporarily downstairs so it was close enough to the lock, I was able to finally use the Zigbee hub functionality of the Echo Plus to pair the lock, and (even better) the Plus can still control the lock after I moved the Plus back to its normal home.
It does work now, and I am happy with how well it works, but the documentation included was far more confusing than it needed to be, and the lack of the “To utilize the smart features of this lock, an Amazon Key Edition Cloud Cam is REQUIRED, sold separately.” disclaimer when I originally clicked on the Woot Deals e-mail link is going to result in a LOT of frustrated customers!
