Kwikset SmartCode 910 Smart Deadbolt

Kwikset SmartCode 910 Smart Deadbolt

Buy lots of AA batteries at the same time. I’ve had this same lock for a couple years and it eats batteries like crazy. Started out okay, but I’m going through a set of 4 about every 3 weeks now. The lock also has an annoying feature of lighting up the keypad as it starts to detect low voltage, causing the batteries to degrade even faster.

@EdwardNowak check your strike plate for friction. Turning the deadbolt should be buttery smooth. If it isn’t, the strike plate (or your door latch) needs to be adjusted. I could go all year without replacing the rechargeable batteries I had, and we never used keys with it.

Thanks, but already did all that.

YouTube this lock and if the first video results are “how to lock pick in 10 seconds” you probably want to skip this.

I love this lock! I have 4 of them. Batteries have not been an issue. I change them about twice a year. I have the locks integrated in to my Alexa/Ring home automated system. Every night at 9PM, the systems locks all the doors. Again throughout the night, the system checks my locks. It’s awesome.

I can check my locks on my phone from anywhere. I can lock and unlock my doors while I’m at work. It’s really cool.

As brought up before, this is probably one of the least secure locks on the market as is the standard for kwikset. That being said, almost nobody picks locks so it’s a pretty moot point.

I have been looking for smartlocks for way too long now and can’t decide which to buy. This is a great deal. Does it have an app that allows you to see and use remotely? Also, does it require the purchase of a hub?

  1. not the same lock
  2. video is nothing more than a 4 minute commercial for his tool and his classes
I mean why else would it take 4 minutes to show you how to do something that only takes 10 seconds

What is the point of a lock to begin with, it is only going to keep the honest people out. A thief isn’t going to be deterred by this or any other lock.

There are a lot of honest people I don’t want in my house.

How do these deal with sunlight? I have one door that faces the southwest and gets a lot of direct sunlight. Wondering if buttons/finish fades or holds up well to the elements.

Oh it appears these are the gen 2 then. The gen 1 stopped being produced because of how easy they were to pick open. Guess they’re making room for the gen 3s.

That lock at Menards is a model 909, not the 910 being offered here on woot. The 909 does not have the wireless capability.

I’m just watching the conversation unfold :eyes::popcorn:

Actually, I do have a question. How do you pronounce Menards? Like may-nards or men-ards?

I was looking at this or a similar Kwikset lock at the big box stores (Lowes) online for closer to $70. Just an FYI to check your local store before going after this listing.

Requires a hub than can handle z-wave.
I tried the 912 version of this lock (has a latch rather than deadbolt) and it would pair up quickly,
Unfortunately it would drop off the z-wave mesh constantly rendering the remote feature useless.
Z-wave devices all around it did not fail.
Rumor has it that if you keep this device fairly close to your hub on an inside door then it works okay.

I bought the Kwikset 888 for $99.97 (including tax and shipping) from an Amazon seller in January.

It’s very similar and is $100.25 on Amazon new right now (without being in an open box), so this doesn’t seem to be a great deal.

I also have two Kwikset Z-Wave locks that look very similar to the 910 that I got with my Vivint security system in March 2016. They have worked very well for over 5 years. I change the batteries maybe 2-3 times per.

Thanks for your input, but as a retired cop of 28 years, how easy a lock is picked is of little importance. Locks keep honest people out. If someone wants through your door, they rarely ever use a pick and tension bar. They just kick it in or use a pry bar. Now I picked locks like these many many times, but that was to serve arrest warrants and not get complaints from the apartment complex for destroying their door jamb.
