Yo Woot, the specs tab says this has the glass lod, yet all the pics show a cast iron lid. This is a big difference. I’ll assume that the pics are correct for the item being sold. Please correct the specs description to eliminate confusion.
Is it 7.25 or 7.5?
Great deal
This should definitely be 7.25q. Not a huge difference in cooking size but should be corrected nonetheless.
I own many LC pieces and this is a perfect size for my family of four. The 5.5q was just a bit too small for us.
I just bought a 5.5 qt (used), for almost this much. DOH! Not sure I could store such a big dutch oven anyways, but great deal!
Checked the Amazon listing. Said it was 7.25.
I bought 2 great Cast Iron Dutch Ovens (5.5qt and 7.5qt) at Costco for $39.99! Why would anyone pay $269.99 for 1?
That’s a bit like asking why someone would pay $40 for a 95 pt. Chateauneuf-du-Pape when they could venture to Kroger’s and buy a bottle of Gallo red wine for$6.99 now isn’t it ?
I think I paid the same price for mine 20 years ago. This is a generational piece of kitchen equipment. The best out there in my opinion.
Durability, craftsmanship, aesthetics, morality of the production, quality of use; this is better than that one at costco for literally every reason.
This is an item that your children’s children will inherit.
Any idea why there is only a 90 Woot warranty on this item when Le Creuset typically offers a lifetime warranty?
Woot gets discounted merchandise if they carry the warranty
These are from Amazon inventory. We can’t guarantee that Le Creuset will honor the warranty when purchased from woot. Some manufacturers are jerks.
I already gave my wife multiple dutch ovens
And now a word from the other end of the bar…
I don’t believe Le Creuset is worth the premium price, even at these Woot discounts. Pick nearly any enameled cast iron Dutch oven of the same size and weight and it will cook no differently at a fraction of the price. There is no difference in results, no difference in materials, no difference in wear from normal usage, frequently no difference in warranty, no difference in design or color, and no difference in longevity - but a huge difference in price. You are paying for the name, and the name alone.
I’ve purchased two different sizes and shapes of Dutch ovens from Woot (neither of them Le Crueset) and you will never be able to tell the difference from the results. Sorry, but it won’t make you cook like Jacques Pepin if you overpay for Le Crueset…
Got my set one by one from a major retailer that was closing out 2 locations. Paid 1/2 price or less for 4 pieces. They have been wonderful & changed my cooking style.
Pros: They are a lighter weight than similar volume enameled cast irons from other well known companies. So my 5.5qt filled with food weights about the same as competitors do empty. This is a bigger deal with larger pieces. In 20-21 yrs I have no chips or defects in the enameling. Bought a 5 qt tall knock off for the toaster oven from Macy’s that arrived chipped. Very even heating.
Really easy to clean. Bartender’s Friend or Bon Ami are great with a soft sponge or cloth. Can simmer some hot soapy water for anything that’s stuck on & will release. Stains mostly lift with a couple drops of dish soap & 1/4 cup vinegar in water set to simmer for a few mins & cool.
Enameled surfaces are non reactive & good for acidic foods. (tomato sauces)
They really do hold up. You wont be replacing your pans every 2- 5 yrs because the enamel is worn or cracked, chipped & the bare metal is exposed. This even happens more often with Staub & Lodge.
They have a lifetime warranty. You need to ship the item to them.
Can use on any heat source even newer induction ranges but not at really high temps.
Consistantly rated #1 by American Test Kitchens & others.
Cons: Need to keep in a clean dry area. Don’t store under the sink or they may rust on the raw top edge. Ditto don’t pop these in the refidge with leftovers. Overnight may be ok but better to decant to another container for refrige storage.
Cannot use metal utensils. Can scratch the enamel.
Can’t use to broil or over 400 degrees in the oven. They are best known for lower temp longer cooks.
Love mine!
This is a good deal. Easy to find a round glass lid for viewing or to lighten the total weight.
The difference is that you only buy LC once. Eventually the cheap stuff will chip. Are there a handful of old Lodge enameled that are still going strong? Sure, but the vast majority are not. The first enameled CI I bought was a Cuisinart on here. Got about 5 years out of it before the enamel just popped off. Replaced it with a LC and am well over 5 years and still perfection other than the normal staining inside.
Another benefit of Le Creuset is that they stand behind their products. Whenever I’ve had an issue with any of their kit I’ve reached out to them and gotten satisfaction quickly and courteously.
(ETA: not saying you’ll get that with this sale, since it has already been mentioned they might not honor their warranty on it. But I’ve gotten it from LC for all their stuff I’ve owned that I’ve contacted the company about and it its part of the reason I am willing to pay a higher price for LC stuff in general.)
