Hey, Woot, can you buy extra warranty for these? 90 days wouldn’t really cut it.
I am NOT saying anything about how well refurbished this is as I have no idea, but I bought this TV in the 48" version from Best Buy and I LOVE IT. The pictures are gorgeous and the sound is terrific straight out of the box. Set up is easy, the apps are easy to navigate, and it works well with a Cable Box. The color options are wide so you can figure out what looks best to YOU.
I was torn to buy the 42" version of this TV as a monitor/TV setup; however, it seems the refurbished options are plentiful at this price point.
I have the 65” version of this TV and love it. Best TV I’ve ever had.
Refurbished OLEDs and short warranties would really concern me though. Seems like a deeper discount is warranted. At a minimum, Woot should specify how existing burn in (no matter how faint) would be handled.
To any prospective buyers, there are Youtube burn-in test vids that you can run them through. They flash solid colors on the screen so you can see issues left by the past owner.
Two weeks after the warranty ran out, a giant vertical line showed up on mine. Surely LG will help me out here, I thought. Nope. They acknowledge that the board was faulty, and basically will cost the same as I paid for it to fix. So, I have a $2500 useless piece of crap. LG was just the absolute worst customer service imaginable. Refurbished? 90 day warranty? No way I’d take that risk.
I have an LG E8 thay I purchased about 5 years ago. It receives solid use every day from all kinds of inputs including gaming (mostly sim racing right now) and the screen has yet to show any signs of burn in.
The newer sets have even better mitigation techniques and also much better specs.
I’d love to be able to justify buying one of these but in all truth my E8 is still going pretty strong.
It has a single flaw and that was my fault… It actually fell flat on its face right after delivery (they tested the screen before leaving to make sure it wasn’t broken). The TV literally fell flat to the floor. It’s all glass and it still didn’t shatter save for a small issue on the bottom right corner where there’s a bit of a splatter. I didn’t notice this was there until after 3 years of owning it because otherwise it’s unnoticeable.
My point is these are pretty sturdy TVs. They’re much better than I expected and back when I bought my E8 the burn-in concerns were very much warranted. I would say they’re not as prone to it at the moment.
Also… It’s not uncommon for companies to offload old stock as “refurbished”. They can justify selling those units tagged as “refurbished” for a lot less because they don’t need to offer the full warranty on them. So… you’re getting exactly what you’re paying for in that sense.
Just because a unit is labeled refurbished doesn’t mean it’s been used before especially if it’s certified by the manufacturer.
There are a couple things to be aware of with LG smart TVs. If you’re a sports lover they do not yet support the ESPN app so no ESPN+ or ESPN PPV events. Additionally you can only Chromecast to the TV from specific “white-listed” web sites. This is really obnoxious. For both of these reasons I’ve found it necessary to have an android tv device connected as the TVs “smart” features are annoying limited. YMMV
LG TV’S don’t have Chromecast. Casting is supported by the apps installed on the device. You can cast YouTube for example if you have the YouTube app installed on the TV. Otherwise you cannot.
All LG OLEDs since 2018 also have AirPlay support from an iOS device built in. App support isn’t necessarily something LG can be faulted for though. It completely depends on the service providers themselves as they have to build the app and make it available on the different platforms.
That said you should always make sure the unit you’re considering supports the services you use often. In my case my E8 supports everything I use so it’s no big deal. I’ve always had a Chromecast Ultra plugged in that rarely gets any use nowadays because of it. My remaining holdouts eventually made it to webOS which for me were Apple TV+ and HBO Max. All other major streaming services are supported on it.
90 day warranty works for dead pixels?
your site is not working for me ,i click on 42 or tried too ,it goes to all sizes but the 42’’
The 42" is sold out.
(Please note: I don’t work for Woot, I just volunteer to help out here on the forums.)
