Controller? I don’t see no stinkin’ controller…
As far as I know, these things don’t have any controller - they just spin inside the ball and fly based on how you hold and throw it.

Vendor confirmed that it comes with a small remote with an on/off switch
Like a kill switch? I guess that would be handy for these as they are unpredictable.

Yes, a kill switch is exactly what it is. I have 1 that came with a “controller” & it just has 1 button that shuts it off. It only works if within a few feet of it. I’m not really sure what the purpose is other than if it helps people that are scared to pick it up while it is on? But, if you were playing with it, then most likely you were catching it out of the air while it is on. I guess maybe it would come in handy if it was stuck to the side of someone’s head, wrapping up more hair with every movement.
