Linksys EA7500-RM Max-Stream AC1900 MU-MIMO Gigabit + WiFi

If I buy this for home WiFi, what else is required? I still have to pay for an internet service right? Does this work with Verizon prepaid? I’m in the sticks of Mississippi but still about 5-10 miles from a tower. But so far the only prepaid service available is Verizon. I really have no idea how to get home WiFi. In desperate need of help so I don’t waste a bunch of money and effort for failure.

When you say tower, are you talking about cell phone service? This won’t help at all.

This router is if you already have internet service at home but the existing modem doesn’t have wi-fi, isn’t up to date with speed, or lacks signal strength for coverage.

I bought one of these and installed it to replace my turn of the century router. Very happy. Can’t tell what is “reconditioned” about it. It came in a plane Linksys inscribed box with Linksys instructions.
It seems to be about $100 cheaper than buying new. This is the kind of deal I like from Woot!
The network map feature is an eye opener. There’s only two of us in my household and at any given time we have between 12 and 18 wired and wireless devices on our network! And I don’t even consider myself a tech geek.

You need a 4G router, not this unit. Vendors in this field include Cradlepoint and Pepwave. Check out 3G store: https://3gstore.com/matching/2_find_router.html?mf[]=28&

Can I use this to replace the cable company’s equipment? I don’t want to rent from them any more. I have Xfinity.

The Xfinity site will have a page with a list of compatible equipment.

You can search for “xfinity compatible modem” on Amazon or Google (or Woot) and find something for about $40 that’ll hook you up to Xfinity. Mine’s from Arris.

Plug that modem into this AC1900 WiFi Router and you’ll have fast wireless everywhere in your house. And no more renting from the company.

I bought one of these APs and installed it to replace an older 802.11bgn AP from D-Link. Right out of the box, hooked it up just as the manual tells me to, and it gets stuck in a reboot loop.

Nothing I could do to recover the hardware. Factory reset didn’t help. Put it back in the box and sent it back to Woot! the next day.

Just my luck, the Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3000 went on sale at my local Costco. Linksys used to be a reliable brand, not anymore it seems.

You would still need internet service from an ISP. Either cable, dsl, satellite, etc. If you’re out in the middle of nowhere, your best option may be satellite. HughesNet is a good option. A lot of ISP’s provide the Wi-Fi router and you may not need this unless you’re trying to avoid monthly rental fees or want a device that gives you more control of your Wi-Fi. I hope this info helps.

Linksys made a name for itself while owned by Cisco. Belkin bought it around 2013/14. Customer service is pretty dismal unless you get a tier 2 rep. The units I’ve bought since as refurbs actually run very well.
