$37.50 at mothership brand new
This is new as well and with the $3 off coupon, we’re priced pretty well.
Hmm, I just got mine, and I’m wondering if anyone else is having the same issue: the device falls asleep after just a couple of seconds of inactivity, connected via either USB or BT, and requires interacting with a button or scroll wheel to wake up. It works perfectly when constantly moving the trackball, but the rapid descent into sleep mode is incredibly frustrating.
Oh yeah, definitely competitively priced. Just I thought I was worth pointing out that if someone is more worried about it, a warranty or they don’t want an open box product or something.
I usually check the mothership just for reference, comma. Sometimes the difference in price is amazing. Like that $40 Chromebook that was being sold recently, it was 90 bucks or 110 bucks on Amazon.
I’ve been using this type for years and I’ve never noticed a sleep mode.
Or, at least, it’s always ready to go by the time the monitor wakes up. Maybe it does sleep. shrug
There might be a setting in the power mode area of Windows. I had to turn off USB sleep or something for another item that would power off. Sometimes with the power saving modes USB devices are allowed to sleep… I’m too lazy to web search, “My mouse keeps going to sleep” … but I did type this?
I got a replacement that works perfectly, so the original one was definitely defective. It was a pretty insidious defect too: after 5 seconds the trackball would stop responding until another button was pressed, but then it would warp the pointer to wherever it would’ve been as I tried moving it during its “sleep.” So basically it seems like the trackball was storing the input but not transmitting it during sleep, which might be hard to believe, but like I said the replacement doesn’t do that so it’s all good now.
I’ve had times that Windoze hangs like that, but it’s more about a program that’s acting up, not the trackball.
Again, you may have gotten a bad one.
I wasn’t using it with Windows, and like I said, the replacement works perfectly (I’m using it right now) on the same system (a Chromebook.)
