Where in Europe is it made? Can cheap people like me use refillable pods and will it still work?

I don’t know anything about these machines or the quality of there pods. But on the L’Or website, the current promotion is for a free machine if you buy $79 worth of coffee. I assume that is why the price dropeed.

Fine machines bought mine on the website with the free coffee deal. The reason the machines are so cheap is because the sell of it will be discontinued in the USA. Not worldwide. The capsules will still be manufactured thru Peet’s coffees as L’OR branded and Peet’s. Keep in mind that this machine does the Nespresso original capsules perfectly so you really can’t go wrong on a purchase.

Darn, just purchased it a few weeks ago and now it includes the frother for the same price. Sometimes it’s better to procrastinate.

Oh you stole a sale from woot. But Is thankyou! Already have the old Nespresso version and the newer ones don’t have the pressure for the creama (they just froth the coffee apparently). Weirdly for those with high cholesterol the not creama probably better for you (assuming it’s like drip coffee - yuck)

What does crema have to do with cholesterol?

Apparently nothing, sorry it’s the filter paper that makes drip coffee better. It removes compounds that can raise LDL. (I asked chatgpt so blame for accuracy). I wrongly assumed pressure pushed more of this compound out.

The frother is $89.00 at the L’OR website. If you add the L’OR coffee maker and frother bundle to your cart, the frother costs $39.00 and the coffee maker is free, even though the website only indicates there is a $50 discount off the bundle ($228 for black and $238 for satin white or cashmere gray). The frother is currently $24.99 at amazon on a limited time deal.

The L’OR scored near the bottom of the pack in ratings by Consumer Reports, apperently because it received a poor rating for temperature consistency for brewing subsequent cups after the first cup.

Philips sold their home appliance segment to Hillhouse Capital in 2021 to focus on their healthcare segment. (Since I purchased a Philips Senseo coffee maker which was discontinued in North America back in 2011, I’m a little leery of Philips products. The fact that L’OR machines are compatible with original Nespresso capsules is a plus.)

I checked the L’Or site and I do not see the pricing that you are seeing. I do see the frother for $25 on amazon.

Regarding the machine, I’ve had one since Oct 2023 and it has been good. I use both capsule sizes. The only issue I have seen with my unit is that about 1 in 20 small capsules tend not to puncture, but I remount it and usually works on the second try.

I also got some metal reusable capsules and have used the larger size reusable for coffee, about 6.5 g ground at aero press setting and it works fine. Pre-infuse about 25 secs

And, I also use the larger reusable capsules for tea! Not bad have to say.
In my opinion at the current sale prices it’s a solid option

Addendum: I do see the frother for $39 and free machine with the purchase of $79 worth of coffee. Is this what you meant?

Yes. I was just checking and it appears the $39 frother price only works for the bundle with the Matte Black L’OR machine, even though you can get the Cashmere Gray or Satin White machine for free without the frother. It alao seems like sometimes the frother stays at $89 even if you add the black machine and frother bundle to your cart.

Do you have a frother with your current machine? If yes, do you think it’s a useful accessory? Are the reusable stainless steel capsules able to brew espresso and coffee preserving the high pressure of the machine?

I got a machine from this sale with the frother to use at work. So never had used the L’or frother. I have used the Nespresso frother and it is OK. It does not yield a thick froth like a true steam set up would, but it is an alternative.

Yes, regarding the high flow of the machine and reusable caps: in fact I had to play a bit with the amount of coffee because there is a sweet spot where less is just not as flavorful, but then a bit too much grounds and the flow is severely hindered. So yes there is a fine turning needed. Having said that I have only used the larger size of the metal capsules and not the “nespresso” cap size one.
