The forum thread on the previous offering of this product license: Microsoft Office Professional 2021 for PC - #19 by pepper114
I also encountered the “img” issue and have not used any license yet but want to. In the thread the mod said the 2023 problems have been resolved. But another poster said he/she had encountered a used license. Is this the blackmarket for licenses? Do those bought before have a shelf life? Is the admonition to install these promptly to ensure they work because they may not be legit? For those limited to 3 before but need more, are these safe to buy if not tried immediately?

Hello there. Should be fine but yes, you should do the install within 90 days.

Am i reading this right that this is not a yearly subscription but the actual program. Would like to use for an older laptop for the grandkids

Correct, this is NOT Office 365. This is the stand-alone Office Suite.

Make sure you follow the instructions for installation.

For anyone trying to decipher the difference:

This is 100% the exact same program and functionality of Office 365 without the subscription services add-ons with O365. Once installed, your apps will even say ‘Office 365’ in the Account tabs. The biggest feature you’ll be missing out on is OneDrive and therefore it’s integration. I happened to get a lifetime OneDrive subscription ages ago with my Windows Phone (don’t make fun!) and use it with these cheap stand alones. This is a fantastic deal and can save hundreds. Thousands? Wootzillions?!?!?

BUYER BEWARE! As soon as you get your code use it! I kid you not, else it end up being stolen and used by someone else. I am not trying to be alarmist. Here is my story.

I purchased codes like this on our “reputable” corporate perks website, for our large Silicon Valley company. The discounts were compelling. I decided to buy five licenses. so as to use some, and to give the others away as gifts. I got my codes, and redeemed my licenses, and then decided to sit on them until I needed them. Go figure months later, every license I bought had been used by someone else. Worse yet, Microsoft reported to me that one of the licenses was actually and MSDN license, not for resale. But it was sold to me anyway.

Fortunately 3 of the five licenses have been refunded to me by the corporate perks site when I reported it. BUT IT WAS A HUGE lesson. If you buy directly from the source (Microsoft), you are generally protected. But if you buy through an intermediary party, you run the risk of someone waiting to see if you have redeemed AND USED your license, and if not, using it themselves (or reselling).

So if you bought this, get it, redeem it. and USE IT FAST, else someone use it first and you are out of your licence/money.

Unfortunately, this is how it is when you buy through a third party… the risk is there. It’s not like buying a physical object, that you can hold in your hand. It’s simply a code, online, that someone else can intercept. So it becomes a matter of speed. Can you buy it and use it before someone else uses it after you bought it? Welcome to the cloud!

Is there a license code for mac osx also available for MS office 2021?

Nobody intercepted your key. These are volume licenses keys. The same key is given to say, 500 customers because that one key is good for that many activations. If you don’t do it right away someone else may take your activation.

I waited too long before and all I had to do was contact Woot for another.

I am not clear on how Amazon / Woot can offer these for sale(?) In general this whole grey market in MS Software is based on folks stealing IT license codes from large corporations who have a hard time keeping track of all their installs, but eventually may run out given that someone in their IT department is helping folks steal them.

Legit license codes from MS generally cost an order of magnitude more than the prices listed here.

First, thanks to Woot staff for not suppressing customer discussion. That speaks very well of them. Second, thanks to upstream for clarifying how these discounted licenses come into being and why they are perishable. So, we are buying the potential of obtaining use of a product at a large discount. Conditions are you must learn the “img” process if your (owned) device does not accept “mounting” easily. You must also use the purchased item quickly before someone else does, but definitely within 90 days.

I bought a cheapo key to Office from Key$w0rld and it worked fine until I upgraded and migrated my Windows install to a new hard drive on the same PC I had originally installed Office on. It would not work anymore nor could I reinstall it. Tech support at Key$w0rld said to me in so many words “You should have read the fine print.” :pouting_cat:
