Microsoft Zune 30GB Digital Media Player

i’m so excited. i just broke my zune (note, do not hold a ridiculously powerful magnet to the back of it) and was saying how i wish woot would have zunes again. i cannot be more excited!

not too bad of price, you can find used ones for 60$ some times. I bought one of these i think in 2007 off woot for 99$ still works great… comm’on woot, get a decent deal on FM/charger adapters for these for the car
Guess you didn’t read far enough. sellout.woot.com. 9.99 plus 5 for shipping.

I have about 1800 Asian songs on my Zune and it supports Unicode just fine. Sounds like you didn’t upgrade your firmware. Go to settings/device/device update and you’ll be squared away in a couple of minutes.

what i’ve updated to the latest firmware and it still shows boxes!

Does the zune software sync your ratings/play count/playlists/last played/etc from your device to the computer library?

Not a bad price. Are these flash based or disk?

Also, MS doesn’t force you to use wma do they? I can use mp3s right?
The 30s (and up) are hard drives, the 16s and down are flash. And mp3s work just fine.

I’ve had mine for 1.5 years, and no problems at all, except for the New Years Eve mass suicide, which was resolved in less than a day.

I have one and use it daily. I have the Zune pass for 14.99 a month and then you get all the song rentals you want (as long as you keep paying you can keep playing) plus 10 songcredits where you can download the songs as mp3s to do with what you like.

My only problem with it is that it is so heavy it is kind of a pain to workout with and really walk with.

I will be buying the thinner version pretty soon.

But I love it…Get Handbrake to convert video to it for free and that works great.

Yes

I bought one of the brown Zunes about 2 years ago and I was sorry that I did not buy two at the time.

I was quite pleased to see this special. This is going to make a very nice birthday present for the girlfriend.

Can one use iTunes to load music on?

Sweet deal. And to think, I was lamenting not buying the smaller Zune with the car kit. Now if it will only get here before I go on vacation so I can bring it with me. That would be extra sweet.

(Screw the car kit. My wife’s Mazda 3 has a direct input connection. Way better than built in iPod support. Blech.)

Will I be able to easily transfer my music from itunes to it?

Pics or it didn’t happen…

I cannot find any support for this on the net w/o doing some rather large hacking to the Zune.

Will these support divx and xvid video files?
You will need to convert them. I do all the time. It works great! Google that and you will find a few ways to convert. One just uses the included zune software.

does it have the drag and drop type of software? i really, really hate itunes.
Not natively, however all you have to do is import the xvid or divx video into Windows Movie Maker (free) and then export it out to a wmv and works great. Also then makes the video able to be streamed to your Xbox if you have one.

I think some of the questions had been answered but…

The Zune will work with any FM transmitter for use in your car and also works well with the aux jack if you have one. I have used both methods (prefer aux of course).

The equalizer is a 1st generation feature. The 1st generation 30g Zune is the only model with an equalizer.

The Zune pass is like renting music. Once your subscription lapses, you lose the license. You also do not have rights to burn the track to a CD unless you buy it outright or use 10 free downloads a month. I enjoy the Zune Pass because it has given me a chance to try much more music than I would otherwise. Even though I originally didn’t like the idea of renting music, the Zune Pass was one of the best purchases I made last year.

In comparison to the iPod software on my phone, the actual interface on the Zune device is more intuitive and easier to use in my opinion.

The Zune software itself I think works very well. I believe it is easier to use than iTunes but I don’t use iTunes as much for music as simply syncing my phone and shopping the App Store. My experience may be limited.

I really can’t say enough good things about the Zune. For a personal media player, the price and feature list make this a great deal.

No, you can rip anything you want and stuff it in there. I rip everything to Lame and have had no problems. It won’t play flac unless you hack it.
How do I hack it to make it play FLAC files? This is the only reason I wanna buy one of these?
go to newegg if you want the carcharger included for the same price.

That’s for an 8 GB + car kit. Today’s woot is for a 30 GB.
