Just in time for the people whose Midea U shaped window AC units got recalled. ![]()
Yeah still waiting for response to emails sent. Replacement with a single hose AC unit is not a good option. Midea is making major ad campaign on Facebook but can’t respond to current customers. I want the $$$ so can install mini split. Can get a split with install for 425
“Ice, Ice, Baby”

I assume this is a single hose unit?
I have this brand. Got it from Sams club. Had it for almost a year. It replaced a single hose unit. Though the older unit was the single hose style, the Midea model is going fine (using less power) and it’s a 12k but vs 8k btu in a 12x24 barn style shed which is insulated. Only thing I had to do was just open the window a little more to accommodate the exhaust/intake hose. I’ve put one of those power monitors on it and it uses way way less power then the older smaller unit.
With a certain amount of hesitation we bought the bigger two-“hose” refurb model here a few weeks ago. We have new windows in with screens in this 1895 farmhouse and if you take out the screen, chances are you will NEVER get it back in place properly. plus window units are pretty ugly.
Seems to work OK and better than some single “hose” (venting?) units we tried years ago.
I had an older ‘portable’ AC with a single hose like this. I advise everyone against single hose designs because it takes conditioned air from inside the room and uses that to cool the condenser. It then blows that hot air outside through the hose. However, that creates a negative pressure so you suck warm air in from outside the room. It’s just not very efficient. Better than nothing though.
If you don’t mind sharing,
who is selling a mini split for $425?
I looked up costs for a friend who was moving and 2 splits &3 heads with install was $5000. She had about 1200 sq ft. & a basement.
Hit me with this cool azz item. I love to be cools.
What’s the difference between single hose vs double hose. Is one newer/better than the other? I haven’t needed an A/C unit for awhile, but I’m trying to learn now in case July/August in the North East tells me to think again lol.
Yeah $425 minis split is not happening. There’s a few DIY kits available (for example MRCOOL) but a professional install is thousands of dollars. The $5k mentioned is not bad for multiple heads. Sounds low to me.
Can you share info on where you’re getting the mini split and installation for $425?
A single hose draws air for cooling the evaporator from inside and blows the heated air outside. This air must be replaced and that replacement air will be warm air drawn through cracks, etc. from outside.
A dual hose unit draws air from outside, runs it over the coils and vents it outside making it function more like a standard window unit.
While using cooler air over the evaporator would seem more effective, the replacement by outside is too much of a cost.
I second/third these questions. I’d love a mini-split.
She was getting a kitchen/bath re do for $35/40K & the minis splits were an add on. He made good $ on the deal, not to worry. (also 6 yrs ago, pre Covid pricing)
This company is sold with all kinds of band names. Local Menards has one that cools/dehumifies NEW for $177 after mail in rebate.
Not seeing due hose here. Am I missing something? (probably)
