I received this very slim dog bed in a MONSTER BOX that was 4ft X 2ft wide.and 4” deep. seriously ridiculously HUGE (and nothing else in it)… I know the bed was inexpensive but this could have easily been folded and placed in a bag and arrived undamaged. If I had known my $10 dog bed was going to kill that much tree - I wouldn’t have purchased it. The bed was fine… but not worth the sadness I feel over the cardboard 
If it makes you feel better, the box was chosen by a dumb system as being efficient, and the human being told that didn’t have a choice.
(It’s the same system which has found people receiving fragile items in plastic bags. TT has a story about that.)
