@kevinahalleck or @Narfcake - can you experts comment on how noticeable is 6 vs 8 gb working memory for routine tasks. Not 3D high demand gaming.

Examples for

  • Surfing web? No difference?
  • Reading and editing Adobe or Office files?
  • Photo editing?
  • How about Projecting on Monitor?

Reason i ask, Amazon sells the 8 GB version for $20 more but different vendor who has very mixed reviews.

Thanks.

I am definitely not qualified to answer. I must defer to the real experts.

I’m using the moto g stylus with 6gb of ram, and I’m able to run multiple full Linux OS’s simultaneously through termux (a terminal/command line app.) I’m also running a web server, a full network capture, ad blocking, and VPN server, along with multiple heavy apps.

No issues whatsoever. And it was $200 on amaz

Wo 6gb ram, the photo editing speed would probably be evident, but not so sure it would be consequential enough to risk an unreliable or untrusted source to pay 20 more bucks to bump up to 8.

At that point the return policy with questionable vendor would key likely point if consequence.

If youre buying this not as an extra for some possible side task due to its value, but to use regularly, then the 8 gb ram may be necessary, but if thats the case, woot’s return policy may offer a better prospect since gambling appears to be a given.

I honestly can say either; I’m really not much a power user at all. Or even a light user. For perspectives, since the beginning of the month, I haven’t even used 500 MB of mobile data. That’s megabytes, not gigabytes.

That said, has Motorola (Lenovo) extended their update policy? That’s what moved me away from them a few years ago.

Wow. Such a power user of a phone.

Wow. Such a power user of a phone. But why on a phone rather than a tablet?
My understanding is that Linus can be run relatively easily on better Chromebooks. Worth conversion?
For newb, would you recommend Ubuntu? Mint?

Thank you.

Thank you @veryjerry, Just using it as a phablet. My go to Pixel 3A phone is showing its age. But its portability and superb camera with free storage of RAW format pictures still impresses me.
