Why would I use this instead of just plugging my phone into the car?
Why? So you don’t have to plug and unplug your phone every time you get into the car. Just leave it in you pocket and it will connect.
It’s also handy if the USB port in your car doesn’t provide enough current to properly charge your phone. You can plug your phone into a higher current charger and connect to Android Auto wirelessly.
I have a 2021 mini cooper w bluetooth. So it wirelessly plays my music, shows me my texts and makes and receives phone calls. The one feature I cannot figure out is how to display google maps…would this device enable google maps to be transmitted onto my screen or is there another way to do this wirelessly?
I’m not a fan of the factory installed maps on my vehicle and I’ve a big road trip coming up and want to choose my own route on google maps and have it display.
Oh, my phone is a Samsung flip 3.
2021 Toyota Corolla here. My phone connects thru Bluetooth like yours but to get Google maps I have to plug my phone in using a usb port. Otherwise Toyota wants me to subscribe to the service.
Does your car have a USB port to plug the phone in? I had to install Android Auto on the phone but that was painless. On my car, it was not to obvious that a USB port was there.
Lets see if @Narfcake knows!
As long as your car supports Android Auto and you install Android Auto on your phone, then yes you can use Google Maps or Waze.
Same 2022 corolla
To be clear, your car must already have android auto, this only lets you connect wirelessly to it.
And your car needs the USB port for it. Then it connects to your phone via Bluetooth.
Doesn’t make sense. This must be old technology for very old cars. When I turn my five year old car on, my phone automaially connects without plugging anything in. The only reason I’d ever plug in my phone would be if my charge was running low – which is never.
Connects and displays Android Auto without plugging in? If you have an iPhone this wouldn’t work regardless.
I have a Pixel 7. Android Auto works wirelessly.
My mini does not have Android Auto only Apple carplay . I do have a usb port in the car. So I gather if I install Android auto on my phone it still will not be usable on my mini without having it factory installed on the mini? So bottom line… this Motorola gizmo is what I need?
I’m not the expert but from reading the blurb, this device is for Android Auto. On my car to access the maps on my android phone, the phone has to be plugged into the car. This device plugs into the car skipping the need to plug in the phone because the device uses Bluetooth to connect to the phone.
But for me, I like plugging the phone into the car as it charges the phone at the same time.
I have no idea how it would work with an iPhone.
I don’t get all the functions on my phone wirelessly. Probably because my car manufacturer wants me to subscribe to their maps and things.
I dug around amazon and found this answer…
: Yes you should already have android auto, but wired ofcourse. If you don’t have any AA on you vehicle this device won’t add it magically, this device is just a conversion of a wired AA to wireless AA.
So thanks for the help but it looks like it’s not for me unless I can get AA after market… how is that possible?
I don’t! This is all new tech for me, what with my current vehicle being my first to come with a CD player. All of my prior vehicles were cassettes decks or radio only.

Sounds fancy. My first car had an 8-track player.
