This must be the diet version because the standard military MRE back in the day was enough calories for a whole day. 1250 calories is enough for survival conditions but not even close to recommended calorie intake for the average adult, let alone an active one camping.
Just saying.
*Just noticed… “Ready-to-eat meals require no refrigeration, cooking, or additional preparation - just heat and serve.” Ummm, wouldn’t heating something be considered cooking or preparing something for consumption?
Based upon the photos and the item Features, these MRE are of the self-heating variety. Therefore, one must only activate the heating process already contained within the packaging; heating the contents via a chemical reaction. They get quite hot and one must be careful not to burn oneself from the steam produced.
These bring back memories of surviving after Hurricane Ivan hit our area in 2004. We received a case of MREs, and ate a few before the power was restored - and much later I discovered that my teenage daughter had opened each of the remaining meal packs to get the candy out. LOL!
Much earlier in my life, our family discovered a barrel almost full of unopened C-rations. Now THOSE were tasty. These MREs not so much.
A menu listing would be nice.
Mystery MRE!
The self-heating feature is actually a separate envelope that has a chemical powder in the bottom. Once water is added a chemical reaction happens and the water starts getting warm. You would then place the MRE bag inside the plastic bag to warm up the meal. After 20 years in the military I’m very familiar with the setup. The individual meals themselves are in a heavy foil pack that has to be cut open, but the heater is a separate plastic bag entirely.
Brings back memories, lol. As much as I love being constipated, I must pass

It’s been added to the features. ![]()
Meh. A 12 pack on Amazon is $35, so if you got two you’d be saving a whopping $1 by buying this from woot. Yippee!
Plus, you could try these from Amazon to see if you like them instead of investing twice as much for a product that might not agree with you.
1250 calories is for one meal. Most people eat more than one meal a day, typically, three. Therefore, if you eat three of these meals per day, you will have consumed 3,750 calories which is more than enough to sustain an active camper. Eating only two meals will give you 2,500 is still sufficient caloric intake to prevent any detrimental nutritional issues if one is burning more than 2,500 calories a day.
I’m aware of all that. I was just commenting on the selling points of comparing it to military rations.
Not great reviews on the mothership. The most concerning are ones that state heater doesn’t work.
