MSI Codex R2 AI Gaming Desktop

This seems like it should be the standard price of this tbh, not much of a sale. Components alone without any sales would be ~$1,100. An OK price if you’re looking for a pre-built with these specs, but you’d be better served looking for deeply discounted 4070/4080 builds which would have more punch around this price point.

Yeah, this seems like the kind of system that I’d recommend to someone else who isn’t going to build/upgrade their hardware: it’s good enough for the price and doesn’t need any obvious upgrades (e.g. RAM) out of the box.

this is an $800 PC at best.

Please post a link for a unit like this for $800. Thanks

I wouldn’t buy a prebuilt system like this(look at that crappy mobo in there and who games on core ultra). I’d build it.
5060 $300
9600x 175
32gb ddr5 $75
1tb nvme $50
solid b650 mobo - $100
decent 650w gold PSU - $50
crappy RGB case- $35
120mm tower cooler - $20

You can build a better performing better quality system with an AM5 upgrade path for way less than this prebuilt POS. You’re paying MSI 300-400 dollars to put the legos together for you.

As I was typing this I saw they dropped the price. Getting closer, still a lot of low end parts in there. and there’s a reason they won’t tell you what the PSU spec is.

PRICE DROP!

Small Print: If you already purchased, that money will hop back into your pockets soonish.

This is a great deal for this setup. You can almost always niggle over a custom build being cheaper, but to build THIS PC is way over $1,000. The cheapest mobo for a Core Ultra 7 starts at $150, and this particular model of the processor goes for $350, and those are Microcenter prices. I have no idea where you’re getting a decent 650w Gold PSU at $50; maybe $100 from a reputable retailer and brand.

Can you get a better PC by building? Sure. Can you get THIS PC cheaper? I’d like to see it.

Seriously, I’d like to see it. I’m looking.

Post a PCPartPicker build – and don’t forget the OS. Just because I don’t value W11 (even if it’s job security) doesn’t mean it’s not valuable to someone else. If you’re doing an apples-to-apples durian-to-durian comparison, there needs to be an equivalent.

And no, W11 can NOT come from Woot!

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)

seems like an good deal on a budget prebuilt to me. personally I build my own PC but a lot of people do not have the confidence to do that.

Not ready, standard price tbh. And it’s not good quality, so expect to have something break, like the PSU, the SSD’s, or the ram. Fans are going to be loud and vibrate, rgb may fail soon or even dead on arrival.

I think it’s an OK deal for the price. I don’t like the fact that it’s the 8GB version of that GPU with only 8GB of VRAM. Some games are now running into memory issues with only 8GB of VRAM. There is also a 16GB vram version of the 5060 that would be more future proof. In fact I just purchased a 5060 TI 16GB to replace my aging 2060 super and it’s been a great upgrade!

They should not even be making new cards in 2025 that they advertise for gaming with only 8gb , in my opinion!

Sold out while I was researching.
At the moment, you can get a very similarly spec’ed version of this on the site that doesn’t sell ‘old eggs’ for $999.
Only difference is a Core i7 instead of the Ultra. They perform on par with each other.

no idea what your comment about getting windows from woot mean. I buy windows keys for $11/each from groupon. If you pay more you’re getting ripped off.

I love the argument this is a great PC because you can’t build it for less as it’s using overpriced under powered Intel hardware that NO ONE buys for gaming and you can’t upgrade. Also that is a trash can motherboard. You can’t buy one that cheap because they don’t sell that crap to people who build. at the reduced price I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people are suckered into this system. When you see the price drop $250 in the first couple hours you know they were trying to see how much they could get away with. I posted how you can build a better cheaper system. go waste your money of this trash. You’ll be dumping it on FB in 18 months.

  1. There’s a reason why Slickdeals stopped allowing posts on software license “deals”.

  2. For $11, that key would have been from a questionable source too. Not saying it’s unusable (at first), but I wouldn’t recommend such.

  3. In no way have I suggested this to be a “great PC” – hence why I called out for you to post an actual PCPartPicker list. Not one using theoretical pricing but what anyone can buy and build right meow.
