@ vendors/reps (if that’s a thing) Lemme get uhhhh x570 board pls, or… b550? Worth a shot in the dark I need an ATX PCI e 4.0, zen 3 amd board
If only they were selling b450 motherboards this cheap
Why isn’t this part of the Mother’s Day sale?
Its a good motherboard and if you have some other parts lying around, it’ll put them to good use. In you use a 10th gen CPU, the top M.2 slot is set to “chipset mode”, which shares bandwidth with other chipset connected devices. The chipset is PCIe 3.0 x4, which means you’ll only be able to use 1 PCIe 3.0 drive at full speed. If you use a 11th gen CPU, the top slot is set to “CPU mode” and you’ll have a PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot. Although weirdly the lowest 11th gen CPU you can put in this board is the i5-11400 which costs about the same as the i5-12400.
The market for 10th/11th platforms is currently in a standoff. Motherboard makers & sellers are dumping these Z490/Z590 boards fast because they want to move on while CPU sellers want to sell at almost MSRP still even when the newer chips have a better upgrade path and even better features. Honestly, I would buy this board and hoard it for years until the CPU prices actually fall like what happened to 6th gen.
Can someone tell me if i can use 11thgen intel with this board out of the box or should i update the bios
Can you use i5 11400 with this z490 out of the box or should i first update bios ?
Yes,
Your CPU is considered 11th Gen Intel Core, this board supports it. No need to update bios to get it running. Check the product description
Hi sir thank you
But i read a few reddit post claiming they had to update the bios
Is this board mabye already uptodate ? (DONT wanna buy a 11gen cpu only to buy a 10 gen cpu )
Is it because the description says 11 and 10 ites already up to date ? Again thank you
You’re right, some boards based on z490 might not work with 11th gen Intel core out of the box. I’ll check this specific model and see if I can get you an answer. You can do this easily by looking up the support page for the board, and checking the update notes on the bios updates. They’re typically on the support->downloads page
On a side note, have you considered a z590 board? Newer chipset, supports 11th gen Intel, not sure what differences are between z490 and z590. Typically it is USB and PCIe lane upgrades and a bunch of other little stuff
It looks like this board DID release before 11th gen Intel support. If it was manufactured after a certain date, or was used by someone, it’s likely to already have at least this revision.
I’m not familiar with bios flashback (updating bios without a CPU) for Intel boards.
I just picked up a gigabyte x570 steel legend for $106 used from Amazon warehouse. The board was in the original box with the peels still on. Not saying it’d be the case but you can check Amazon warehouse for used boards, eBay (sketchier), and Newegg. I’ve even seen some on Mercari and other sites.
Not far enough! Current going rate for a locked 6700 on eBay is still $65±, and that’s largely because 7th gen and lower aren’t natively supported by W11. The i7 performance was already outclassed by a 10th gen i3.
Meanwhile, a 13th gen i5-13400 can outperform an 11th gen i9-11900 already.
Hail to the Motherboad!
We don’t talk about the 11th to 12th gen performance gains
Lol but you’re right
These new Intel chips are insane some of them are being thermally throttled when unlocked without at least a tower air cooler, some people are pushing it with liquid cooling builds. Apparently they went crazy with the tdp on the high end chips
It’s the only way to top the competition. Power consumption and thermals be damned, performance sells!
Going back to 2017 – Ryzen caught Intel off guard, so 8th gen upped the core counts, 9th gen pushed some optimizations, 10th gen and ongoing 10nm woes meant AMD was right on par, 11th gen was a L – so if 12th gen didn’t answer back with some impressive gains, that would have only handed AMD even more market share.
Intel’s saving grace in the past few years was that they have their own fabs and have greater control over production; they weren’t at the mercy of others, so they were readily available while AMD wasn’t.
With AM5 being DDR5 only, Intel is still the overall value option for the current generation (IMHO).
Yea AMD was always the under dog, then they came with better value to performance and made Intel catch up. Intel even copied their chiplet design.
Definitely better to get that Intel option. I just caught up to AM4 so DDR5 isn’t even a thought for me
I have some AM4 systems here I should upgrade. Going from a 2200G and 1600 to a 5600G will be a huge step up. Yes, it’s not PCI-E 4.0, but neither are any of the boards I already have either. Then I’ll shuffle things around, relegating the 2200G to one of the A320 boards I have that’s so low end, it doesn’t even have a M.2 slot.
(I still have a 1200 around too, which I kept because it’s probably compatible with every AM4 board, old or new. It’ll come in handy should I run across an non-updated board in the future.)
Lots of words and numbers in that post.
