When I see deals like these on local TV commercials, they’re usually accompanied by a description of how mentally unbalanced the store owners/employees have become.
Has Woot! gone insane too?
Insane how??
More than normal?
Disclaimer…Attention to details:
All actuality product itself states 650W Peak and those numbers are definitely over rated with a low 2 pound magnet. Probably not even worth investing the time to install something of this caliber unless your trying to impress your 8yr old!
Be careful with these, after receiving them the rubber surround is very thick, and very hard rubber. there is little give to it and i don’t see it “breaking in” like stiff spider packs will eventually do. Even after breaking it in on low power sine waves the surround remains crazy hard. the spider on this is already fairly soft but the stiff rubber surround allows no movement and over damps the cone, and i can see this being a very big problem in cold climates where it will only be worse. It will be way too easy to over drive and over heat the small voice coil, and small motor assembly on this. Possibly into very early failure. I feel the surround would crack or voice coil overheat before the surround ever softens up. Just my humble honest opinion
Any box recommendations on these?
The user manual for these suggests 22 liters sealed, which is .777 cu. ft. sealed.
22 litres would be the “net” internal volume of the enclosure they suggest and after accounting for the thickness of the panels, the dimensions they list would be external dimensions of the suggested enclosure and very close to the correct suggested internal volume.
I tried both sealed and ported and had less than satisfactory results in either as a result of the limited movement of the cone due to the overly hard rubber surround and small easily over driven voice coil assembly. can’t get these things moving properly as a subwoofer driver
Sorry if I’m misunderstanding this as I’m very new into all this, but wouldn’t this subwoofer be better in an infinite baffle system with its stiffer rubber?
technically yes, BUT the rubber is SO stiff that it’s TOO hard for the small voicecoil/motor assembly to move. forces the voicecoil to work too hard thus generating far more heat than the assembly can get rid of before going past the thermal limits very quickly
You needed no more information past the Nakamichi nameplate. Pimped off years ago to make fast money on cheap terribly made audio products. I can remember when they were a desirable brand.
the Nak amps being sold here are actually very decent especially at the Woot prices. The other higher power subs that sold out quickly were very good as well.
