This camera does not support POE (Power Over Ethernet), does it? Does NEST have POE-powered cameras? I see a lot of other brands supporting POE, and very much like the idea not having to run regular power cables all through my house + the added benefit of Ethernet over wifi.

there’s a ton of product out there for more than 1/3 the price some of which the camera captures it and it never goes to the Cloud instead keeping it local on a memory stick.
Far better than being hacked.
Until someone steals that local memory stick, then you’re really SOL.
What you’re paying for is convenience, piece of mind as well as an active alert. Cameras are useless if a thief covers their face or breaks in and steals your memory stick. The benefit of these wifi cameras is the notification that something has moved, or someone has entered and the ability for you to determine if the police need to be called.
I’ve used both brands. Nest’s picture quality, especially its night vision, is vastly superior to Blink’s. I do agree that Nest prices their products way too high, but let’s not act like there no difference in quality between the brands.
4k is nice but having a few of these would saturate the average home’s broadband upload bandwidth.
For example I get about 100MBits down but only 12-20Mbits up. I can’t have all four of my older nestcams at 1080p and still enjoy my service.
You fiber people are ok though.
I bought one of these a few months ago, not realizing the monthly charge for being able to retain the history in the cloud once the 30 day free trial ran out. I thought this was egregious given the cost of the camera. I ended up switch to Blink, bout 2 of them for about $130. There is no monthly fee for storage, they are battery powered with a lithium battery that is supposed to last about 2 years and I find the night vision is better quality.
I’m not a fan of Nest Cam. If a thief steals it, they can erase your cloud data by registering the camera.
Nest won’t allow a registered device to be activated on a new account unless the previous owner has deregistered it. I know from personal experience. Bought an open-box item, then had to open a support ticket with Nest when it told me the device was registered to a different account. Waited several days while Nest tried to contact the previous owner to confirm.
Check out the Wyze camera. I just got mine like 2 weeks ago and it is by far the best indoor security cam. They are only $20 (early access) right now $30 (retail). I’ve tried a few security cameras and this one is easily the best and it is the cheapest. Nest cam is nice but overpriced.
Yeah I leave my hidden camera right on the kitchen table. Both my wife and I get an email when one of our 3 motion zones are trip. The sensitivity level is adjusted for each so birds, dogs, cats and squirels won’t trip it, our other 2 cameras do the same inside.the events are recorded to review live as well as playback later. One micro ad card last 45-60 days before being recorded over. Truth be told all 3 cameras are hidden and out of reach. Even the Led is off. All do night vision all 3 are samsungs total cost $99.
The cloud is not secure.
