Rose gold may be dead, but that idiot Touch Bar that nobody has ever used or asked for seems to be immortal

60hz?

Eh, touch bar is fine. I still have one on my 2019 MBP (and use it without issue). Apple didn’t support it properly but the idea was sound.

Can someone tell me if this is an upgrade to what I currently have? My computer is STRUGGLING and I’m trying to decide if I should buy this.

Currently, I have: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports). 3.1 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5. 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3. Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB

This is a way faster laptop. I’m sure someone on here could give you the specifics, but there is a huge difference in processing power.

This would be a massive speed upgrade for you. 24GB RAM doesn’t just triple your RAM, but improves your graphics speed since the M-series RAM can be shared with the graphics processing. Very few people appreciate the Touch Bar, but you may like it and it does include Touch ID. It has newer Bluetooth. and Wi-Fi.

BUT, the main negative with this laptop is that it only has two USB Ports (both C and Thunderbolt 3) and when you need to charge, that takes one of the ports. There is no MagSafe.

Since I don’t need a Pro processor, I generally recommend the M4 MacBook Air to almost everybody, but since this computer has a perfectly fine M2 processor with and excellent 24GB of RAM plus 1TB of SSD. Since it is new, I would consider this a great price.

This is incredibly helpful!! Thank you for the thoughtful response. I’m also trying to decide if this is actually the screen size I want. I was thinking when I purchased a new computer that I wanted a bigger screen - this wouldn’t offer that. While it seems trivial, also wondering if I want to downgrade the number of ports I have. I am still a student, and I’m wondering if I should take advantage of the Apple Education promo they have going on instead.

I got a 14 and 16” M1 Pro on here for 799 and 999 respectively. Just hang tight for a bit and check back.

They call it the 14”.

This is real, it’s the last model with the Touch Bar design that was introduced in 2016. The rest of the MacBook Pro lineup moved to the new (current) design in 2021.
