I still don’t think this is at the price point to make these move.

I have a “revolutionary” Lytro Illum camera that focus the picture AFTER it is taken that cost around $2,000 in 2010 money. It flopped and was here for under $200.

Sometimes things just don’t live up to their hype.

Not sure why people spend big money for headphones made by a company that makes vacuum cleaners.

Black Friday price on Amazon will be lower than this beyond a doubt. Old tech prices go down not up as time passes.

I just ordered a couple. One for me, and one as a gift. It’s not the lowest ever price I have seen cited ($150) but it’s pretty close, I didn’t know about them when they were that cheap and sometimes you just miss the very best deals. Doesn’t mean you don’t take a good deal where you can.

The air purifier gimmick is stupid, particularly since it does not look like it is sealed around the face like a respirator would be, allowing stuff to get in from the sides but allegedly as a headphone it’s a good one that competes with headphones that cost way more than the $180 woot is asking.

Targets a frequency response resembling Harmon Kardon products. Crinacle made a review claims he had to buy them with his own money and I do believe him, since he does recommends against them. However he is also mostly citing the thousand dollar price point they had upon release though, and says they’d be good at a retail price $550 range (if they looked better), comparing them favorably to Airpod maxes and Sony WH-1000MX 5’s.

Hashgraphic also compares them favorably against the Sony WH-1000X MX5 headphones representing a bit of a concurrence, as well as a Sennheiser Momentum 4s. A single pair of Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones costs $350 on Drop right now, with a $100 discount over R.R.P., and the cheapest I see for Sony WH-1000XM5 (barring ebay, which does have some good looking deals if you are willing to take that risk) is $269 on Groupon with a coupon discount. These have been discontinued, but apparently Dyson made a replacement headphone which is basically the same thing without the air purifier parts. It sells for $250 on Dyson’s site.

So you know, maybe you could consider it as a $250 headphone that’s 30% off rather than an $800 headphone that’s 75% off, or maybe even a $350 headphone that is 50% off (considering that’s how the Momentum 4s are priced now, and the M.S.R.P. of the WH-1000XM5).

These were allegedly the best bluetooth headphones in their price range at some point in time, which could be rather impressive considering how expensive they could be.

And you know, aesthetically speaking these might not have the sleek minimalist appeal but aesthetics are a bit subjective, and there is a bit of appeal to the austentatiously futuristic look. Like, I could imagine bluer-haired Miku wearing a pair of headphones like this (not so much greener-haired Miku though).

Edit. Sorry, I didn’t specifically mean for this to be a reply to a specific person.

If they still had the Prussian Blue, I’d get them for this price. This colorway, however… $25.

It’s hard to believe these were $1K new. The single handed worst product Dyson ever made. I personally never used them but I heard the headphones themselves are basically just mid on everything. Plus the sound of the air purifier fan negates the ACN from all the reviews.

These have gotten some good reviews for the sound quality, which surprises me. The “filter” thing is just silly.

I don’t ever recall hearing these were $1000.00. I though the MSRP was closer to Apple AirPods Max, and initial impressions were, why would anyone not just get the highly regarded Apple product instead?

This listing is “blue/silver” isn’t this the Prussian blue variation? Amazon.com: Dyson Zone WP01 Headphone, Air Purification, Advanced Noise Cancellation, Touch & Voice Control, Built-in Accelerometer, Beamforming & Noise-Cancelling Microphones, Ultra Blue/Prussian Blue | WP01 : Electronics ($249 and $299 on the mothership at this moment)

I’ll bet @kevinahalleck knows.

[Personally I’d rather have these in the CNC Copper colorway.](Amazon.com: Dyson OnTrac™ Headphones, CNC Copper) Very cool looking.

C-net has a review listing them at $1000. They also have an article mentioning one of Woot’s previous attempts at hawking these off at $380, which is over double the current price. Dyson really has trouble unloading selling these. I hear their newer headphones without the face mask gimmick is doing better. Regardless, once you’re looking at quadruple digits there are much better headphones you could buy. Truth be told, some of the Bill of Materials and engineering cost is going towards that gimmicky filtration contraption, so you were never going to get a full thousand dollars’ worth of sound quality anyway, even relative to other active noise canceling headphones.

Dunno how much Dyson thought that feature was worth. Obviously they were hoping to capitalize on the plauge. Razer did something similar with their zephyr face mask, which turned out to be a scam. However, mandatory masking ended by Q2 2022 and the Dyson Zone was were released about a year later, so these never really had a chance to get off of the ground on that basis.

Speaking of the filter, it is silly, and obviously kills the sound quality, but at the end of the day it is just an optional gimmick. The face mask comes off, and the fans can be switched off, so at the end of the day you are just judging them as noise canceling headphones. Pretty harmless, except maybe for the added weight from the H.E.P.A. filters.

Regarding color, these are billed as prussian blue, but I think was a Dyson Zone Absolute+ which is advertised as a Prussian Blue & Gold color scheme. It came with a few extra accessories too. However the additional gold color is only [mostly] inside of the earcups, which will never be seen while you are actually wearing them and on the mouthpiece. So if you are wearing the headphones, but not the mouthpiece, nobody can really tell the difference, especially since these still look like have the gold ring on the outside of the ear-cups. A separate gold ear cup filter would make it even harder to tell the difference.

I must admit, if you were going to wear the mouthpiece, the gold looks better than the silver. Gives it more of an Iron Man look. But if you are not? Meh. They are basically the same product, even color-wise.

Edit: Actually looking closer at the promo shots for each, I think this version has a blue accent ring on the ear cups. One of the promo shots has the gold ring, but that might just be a mixed up shot. These are advertised billed as Ultra Blue and Silver in any case. The Ultra blue looks brighter than the Prussian Blue too on second thought.

I stand corrected. At $1000, I’m sure evryone laughed and asked what kind of hallucinogen the “travel visor” gave out.
