I bought one of these refurbished last time at a great low price and was excited to finally get to have hot coffee for an hour. But sadly it was lost in the mail and I couldn’t get a replacement
One of my favorite YouTubers loves his and I’ve been looking at it ever since, even though I don’t even drink tea like that. Maybe I could start? If this was $50 each, I’d buy them as Christmas presents.
I’m serious these are great. You have to give it a few weeks to get used to having your coffee at the same temp until the last sip.
I got one half jokingly a few years ago and still use it multiple times a day. I’ve been drinking coffee for over 40 years since I was a kid yes I’m old af.
The app is garbage though.
It’s really sad how much stuff gets lost in the mail
Or gets ripped off by delivery companies
Just can’t see myself spending $56 (or $70-$80) for a coffee cup. Even if it DOES come with its own wall wort.
I received an Ember mug as a gift for Christmas 2012 and it is still going strong. I was upset that the gift giver had spent so much money (about $125 from mother ship) on a COFFEE MUG but at these prices they are worth a consideration.
I was surprised it actually got lost by Amazon Logistics when it made it to the last stop before going out for delivery. One time before I had a package lost/stolen from UPS on the east coast but never from Amazon itself
Bought two of the refurbished ones last time. The Android app at least was terrible, especially on a Pixel (check out the app reviews). It tried a firmware update and got stuck at 2% then was unable to pair with my phone. (Never thought I would type I updated the firmware for my coffee mug.) Seemed to be issue with more recent phones. I was able to reset it and update the firmware using an old Samsung tablet I had in a drawer.
Ember customer support took 2 weeks for a reply “We are seeing higher than normal reply times…” Yeah because it seems they my have put out a bad version of the app. It seems to works OK now with the updated app but haven’t had to do a another firmware update.
I bought the 16oz tumbler thinking I could put coffee in it before I go to bed and have hot coffee when I get up. They market this as keeping your coffee hot all day, but if you don’t move the cup within two hours it shuts off even if on the charger. Don’t know if it’s the Ember or my phone, but it loses the Bluetooth connect a lot. I’m using it, but when it dies I’ll never buy another.
My son gave my wife one of these about 3 years ago. The cup is heavy and feels great in your hand but the flaw is the charging base. About a week before the warranty ran out, one of the pins on the charging base stopped sticking up so it no longer charged the cup. It was replaced under warranty and about a week before that warranty ran out the same thing happened to my second charging base. It was replaced again and this third time, the pin stayed up until about a week after the warranty ran out. Great idea but terrible design. I wouldn’t give $5 for a cup and the base.
Try the ionmug they’re $40 and work essentially the same.
Lol. You can get a mug hot plate (coffee warmer) on Amazon for under $20. Does basically the same thing. I use mine every day, including right now.
Sure, you can’t set your coffee to an exact temperature (actually on some you might) or get an update on your phone. But the three settings on mine are plenty. All I need, short of getting up and getting me another cup.
I want some ember paper cups, for when I’m running late in the morning and have to grab a cup to go.
Think it will work if I sit my paper cup above a tea light candle in my car?
Coffee kept at a minimum temperature (135℉) all night is NOT going to be very good in the morning. That’s a bizarre use case, but you do you.
Also, from the product description:
- Auto Sleep: Our heated coffee mug intelligently senses when to turn on and off; The mug enters sleep mode when empty or after 2 hours of inactivity; Ember wakes up when it senses movement or liquid
No doubt a safety feature, so hot liquid doesn’t sit around waiting for someone to knock it over (or the battery to be run down to 0%, which will kill battery health).
Costco or Woot FTW. (Costco had v1 at $89.99 IIRC, went on sale once.) I think the v2 is much improved.
My quickie review: the app (as of 10/2024) is pretty good. You can change the “identification” color for your mug if you have more than one. You can change the intensity of the LED (I have it at 10%). You can set the temperature manually or use a selection of presets. Nicest, but works intermittenly, the iOS app shows the mug’s temperature on Apple Watch … but that’s it. I bought the 10oz version, and it’s kept my latte hot for an hour. Success! I am a little bothered that I can’t plug the charger/base into a USB-C connection … moving the base and AC adapter from kitchen to office and back is a pain. I guess that’s not the intended use case. If I could only buy a spare base for $15-$20….
Funny u should say that…mayb true, keeping hot all nite is not a good thing…but
We have Mr. Coffee, 12 cup pot…and if we dont finish it n the morning, it is set 2 reheat n the next AM…and we luv it…no coffee goes down the drain @ our house
I do microwave and stanley theros type… thx 4 this, very helpful!
They came back today as Factory Reconditioned. Couldn’t resist a second one (I was watching spare charger/coasters on Amazon for $26ish), and one for my daughter for Christmas.
