While I’m not entirely sure this is a good price, I can say this is a great phone even if it’s now 1 generation old. I think for what the phone offers, $420 is still a decent price.
I currently have this phone and I bought it when it first arrived in 2021. I am not going to upgrade to the Pixel 7 Pro, since the 6 Pro is similar in almost every way.
I plan to get at least another year, maybe two out of this phone before I consider upgrading. It’s been that good.
It’s a solid phone but do keep in mind some of these have a ghost tap issue. These are also known to overheat easily even during normal use. I purchased one of these for my mother who plays a lot of Candy Crush and the handset would reboot on her often because of this. I switched both of us to the 7 Pro as soon as I could because of it.
The battery is also mediocre and this being Google’s first foray in working with its own silicon it’s not the fastest handset around. Consider this hardware Beta.
What you do get is a solid camera and possibly the most polished Android software experience in the market. I love my 7 Pro and as mentioned above the 6 Pro is similar in experience if only for the issues I mentioned earlier.
This is my primary phone, and I think it is just okay. This does look like an okay price, but I am disappointed with Google overall. Don’t think there is really anything special about having a Google phone. I am curious what can be done with the “unlocked bootloader”. Would that make this offering less secure ?
Well it would be locked by default, but can be unlocked.
It would allow you to root the phone (and install a custom ROM, if you so desired).
(Please note: I don’t work for Woot, I just volunteer to help out here on the forums.)
It has a well known battery issue with no fix.
With the Pixel 7a sitting at 500 and well under during sales, price on this is just a tad high even for new.
