I bought a refurbished one with far less memory for $50 bucks less early spring. Major upgrade over my old LG V60. If I was still in the market for a phone I would most surely be getting this.
“New” but with a 90 day warranty?
Was about to pull the trigger but 90 days warranty on a NEW item - no thanks!
$499 deal on the mother ship. It seems like a good deal but it is only about 60% off Google Pro 9 which was just released Aug 24.
I’m surprised the Pixel 9 pro is about the same price as an 8 pro. (Mothership, via the Google Store)

8 pro (512GB) for $1,180

9 pro (512GB) for $1,220 (there’s also the XL and foldable variants)
Bought the phone for the cameras, pixels take good pictures. At $399, not going to weep if something goes wrong. If you want to pay for a new phone as much as you’d pay for a new big screen 4k, don’t buy this phone. All electronics are obsolete quickly.
I have this, obviously great camera etc, but really bad signal issues for this model unfortunately. Please read up on it. Very good cameras, etc. Slow to charge as well.
Pixel camera tech and importantly - post photo auto optimizing processing is absolutely excellent.
I have seen a glimpse two times of when it without prompting altered the shot taken in real time in a fraction of a second and what an older Pixel 3a did to enhance the image surprised even some semi-professional Fine Arts majors who had won photography awards.
If you need DisplayPort support, that’s limited to Pixel 8 and up. I’ll pass.
I have a pixel 7 pro. It’s a great phone in terms of photography. It served me well for about 2 years. However, it has a serious heating issue for me (may have something to do with the way I use the phone, including hotspot). It has gotten so bad that the battery became swollen up and the screen popped open. I am waiting for the Pixel 9 pro to become cheaper (hopefully during Black Friday) as it has supposedly improved the heating issue.
what’s the use case for DP on a phone? Using it as a Chromebook? Bought a Moto with HDMI thinking I’d use it all the time, used it once and never touched it again.
@tfshum - Were you possibly charging using a high mAmp charger and 65watt or higher cable? While using the phone as a hotspot? Did the phone get very warm while charging? Too high a rate of charge can damage the battery rather dangerously.
I bought this exact phone from the mother ship a couple of months ago. I paid $489. It’s a solid phone. I’ve had several previous Pixel models. This is the best one. My only criticism is the camera software. I think Samsung’s camera takes better pictures, but I swear it is just better software because the specs are so similar. And the iphone camera is still the best if you don’t mind the price tag and proprietary handcuffs. At this price, I may buy another one for backup., since this phone has a glass back and I’ve broken two of them even though they were on a case.
Mine gets warm when it is exposed to sunlight or wireless charging. Other than that it’s no worse than previous models. Hotspot definitely increases heat.
Wireless charging is at best 80% efficient. I never use that indirect method unless the device is a watch with no other way.
My child compared images from my humble, second hand Pixel 3a with output by a iPhone 11 Pro. The Pixel 3a actually was discernibly better. We both were astounded - had not expected that. It was the post image capture auto processing. Online reviews showed it was not a fluke nor a bad 11 pro. Not sure about the current iPhone 16 upgraded (hope it is better). I also can archive RAW files which are huge for free, hosted by Google.
Does anyone know if this is OEM unlocked? I see carrier unlocked, but want to use this to try out GrapheneOS.
You should be able to install GrapheneOS.
Just buy this and then trade it in towards the Pixel 9 Pro. they will give you $540 in trade-in value, so you save $140 net.
Get it on eBay or Swappa for cheaper.
I usually get mine for around $250.
