…and “New” but non-touch display. How old is this new item?

Touch displays are a must for tablets. I have touch screen laptops with touchpad and trackball. I far prefer to use a mouse for speed and ergonomics. Also have a 23" touch screen. Have yet to use that feature.

Would gladly trade a faster GPU for the cost of a touchscreen in terms of practical usage.

Just found out HD+ is a thing

Next you figured out that it really should be HD- as in minus sign since it is less than HD. What engineering nerd approved marketing to use HD+ for 1600x900 and HD for 1280x720? HD should have been top 1080 and things below are SD. Oh well ranting old news.

My 10 year old 17 inch laptop does 1920x1080… ok now I am done.

Can’t use a mouse, esp for higher speed things as I get carpal tunnel s/s.
Touch screen is a must for some.

HP stands for Hinge Problems. 90% of their models suffer from poor design choices and the hinges break. This is one of the models that is a problem child.

It’s purely throw away when (and it will) break as the replacement costs nearly the price of the device.

That is somewhat rare. I also find it far more important to wear a brace at night to prevent thumb from folding towards palm. I prescribe those to carpal tunnel patients. Personally have had transient carpal tunnel. So I have used same and use a large squared off bottom mouse so palm is not scrunched. That is why I use a $11 HP mouse instead of a narrow oval.

If not enough relief, maybe try a vertical grip mouse.

Excellent low cost brace. Strap goes across back of hand pulling trumb back. Goal is to prevent thumb from folding inwards (prevent abduction). Wear especially at night.

Have had $150 custom braces x2 from a hand therapist for sleep & now use OTCs.
Considering a surgery this spring post Covid season. Would like to do more.
Thanks!

Compare the custom and the $11 a few nights. Please note wrapping should pull thumb away from palm. Should be high enough so thumb has difficulty touching pinky. So when sleeping it keeps you from compressing thumb against palm and avoids pressure on median nerve.

What are you using your laptops for, a tennis racquet?

Or are you a tech person who only is given the broken ones and that is all you see?

[BTW, asking repair people for the best anything usually results in bad advice. ]

I’ve had quite a few HPs, and never, NEVER had a hinge break.

As usual, it would be very useful if any criticism was followed with HOW you use the laptop.

Graphic design?
Gamer?
Video producer?
CAD?
Photoshopper?
Zoomer?
Movies?

That determines a great deal about your reaction to any unit.

I’m an old man 2 finger typing. Does anyone know if this has a lighted keyboard?

I miss the DVD drive. I am not buying another computer without a DVD drive. The SSD is too small, too.

You must choose bad ones. Been an HP notebook family for over 20 years. Quick head count we’ve had at least 12 in that time. Never had one hinge problem. Even the kids. It does help to not buy the $250 dollar specials. …I take that back I did have the first HP 180 degree spinning pen screen. The hinge did go on that after 5 years. But that was more of an experimental design.

The NVMe SSD is standard M.2, so it’s upgradable. Likewise with the RAM – standard DDR4 SO-DIMM.

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)
