JBL usually gives me a reason to upgrade Flip models: better horn design, significantly better battery life, improved form factor, or updated connection capabilities. I think I’ve owned every version since the 3.
What’s the big sell with this over the Flip 6? “We also added our new proprietary tech, AI Sound Boost, which anylzes [sic] your music in realtime [sic] to deliver maximum acoustic performance with less distortion.” Sigh.
If ~15% better battery life (on top of the already-very-good 12 hours of the F6) and the “drop proof” promises are selling points, I guess maybe go for it. But also be aware that the newest version of JBL’s proprietary speaker pairing tech (Auracast) isn’t compatible with PartyBoost, so if you current use the latter, you’ll have to replace all your devices to maintain functionality.
Whatever happened to Chromecasting and Airplaying? I tried Miracast once with a Nexus 4/5, and pffft. Tired of these proprietary casting methods.
The specs on JBL’s website states the speaker also has PartyBoost.
Edit: I just read a review, and it states the Flip 7 is not backward compatible with PartyBoost speakers. Perhaps a mistake on the JBL website to claim it has PartyBoost?
