Prices are up now on most electronics. Good price now for new, but if you had purchased 2 years back $399/ea was the same good deal.

This seems like an unfortunate combination of features that puts the speaker in no-man’s-land for most people.

  • No stand mounting holes on the bottom, so it can’t really be used as a PA or indoor setup unless you have a different way to get it higher. [Turns out I was wrong: it does have a mounting hole. JBL’s site doesn’t list that on the spec sheet, and the pic of the bottom shows a cover you have to remove to mount.]
  • Only IPX4 rating, so limitations on outdoor usage like sidelining.
  • 15 hours of battery (will vary with volume and type of music), which is midrange to short for this size.
  • A little too heavy to carry anything but a short distance, and the wheels don’t look wide enough to deal with wet ground or sand.

Within the JBL brand, the Xtreme 4 seems better for most portable uses (shoulder sling, stated 24 hours of playtime). For sideline/outdoor use, ION and other brands make rolling models with larger wheels and better IPX ratings for about half this price. For general PA use, Mackie and other brands have powered (wired) speakers with comparable specs for much less money.

I guess if you specifically need battery-powered PA speakers, a pair of these would be appropriate? I’d personally just spend the money on a portable generator (gas or battery) to power all my gear (speakers, sound board, etc.). Or if you really want an all-in-one portable speaker with BT mic for some reason?

I can say I can get a better speaker for $1 from my mommy, but that doesn’t mean much if that alleged deal isn’t available to the masses.

Links or it didn’t happen.

Here is an alternative at Sam’s Club for almost half the price - just throwing it out there, not saying it is an exact spec match

Here is an even cheaper alternative. Not the same specs, of course…
