Does it bump?
Friend has a smaller version JBL we took on the beach in Hawaii, and I gotta say it does bump pretty well. This having bigger speakers and more power I can only assume bumps harder. I was honestly impressed.
The Flip is really good sound. I’ve not heard this one. As above, bigger may be better.
Sold by a 3rd party seller with no reviews. It also keeps flipping to out of stockIf you want to chance it, please do. We won’t comp to it.
Fair enough. Worth trying for the price change on here.

We have the Charge version. It bumps hard. A friend of mine has this and it bumps. Everything JBL is awesome.
I tested this side by side with the new Charge 6. And as expected, the Xtreme 4 is a night and day upgrade. Better bass and clearer sound. If the bigger size works for you, pay the extra $70 and go with this. Charge 6 can hold its own, but after hearing both, I cant go smaller. Luckily Im mainly using the Xtreme 4 as a garage speaker and not as much portability, but the size is still definitely travel friendly, unlike the Boombox 3.
Really nice but wrong color delivered. Ordered blue, got camo.
Edit: Exceptional customer service by Woot to make it right!
I like JBL, but I didn’t want to spend that much, so I got an Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus that works pretty well. The passive radiators really help the bass when you have a smaller driver.
Needing a decent speaker for camping with a bit more “oomph” than desk speakers, I picked up the new JBL Xtreme 4 here on Woot. As is standard for Woot, the package shipped quick and arrived in no time. The delivery box was a JBL-logo cardboard that was appropriately dirty, but free of dings and dents with the JBL box inside.
The JBL box was wrapped in a thick, white paper, which apparently protects the exterior from the inside of the cardboard. I think. I’m still not sure its purpose, but an extra layer of care is always nice with these kinds of purchases.
Cracking open this egg-of-music reveals JBL-issued humaniods in an appropriate state of mandatory joy for utilizing said product.
Inside, the speaker is protected by end-cap cardboard, silica packet, and a cheesecloth-like wrapping around the Xtreme.
Beneath the speaker is a mini-box that contains the Quick-Start Guide, USB-C wall-charger, and the color-matching shoulder strap.
Finally, the speaker, which is simply lovely.
A small item that’s some impressive attention-to-detail is the power cable has a dedicated “clip” for keeping it all together. The clip has the JBL logo, which is an extra level of AtD.
But How Does It Sound?
In a word: Great. JBL is known for quality speakers and the Xtreme is no different. Audiophiles and sound-reviewers are better equipped to get into the weeds of dynamics ranges, bass output, “tweeter location”, and other tech stuff, but for this common-Dad’s ear, it sounds fantastic. Louds get really loud and the speaker pumps out way more noise than its medium size would lead you to believe. The JBL app is also pretty solid, with baked in EQ settings or you can create customizable ones. Additionally, the ability to pair to other recent JBL products (like the Go4) adds some neat stereo-syncing.
It’s technically portable thanks to the shoulder strap, but as many reviewers will note, it’d be really nice if there was a handle. That quibble aside, it’s not overly heavy, but noticeable compared to the Charge or Flip line. Which is to be expected since it’s much larger than those offerings.
Overall, this not-so-smallish speaker is yet another example of JBL’s excellent quality. It’s more expensive than “portable” speakers, or even some competitors like the Anker Soundcore Boom line, but at the Woot price, it’s a lot of bang for the buck. With its waterproof-iness, dustproof-iness, and drop-resistance-ness, this is a perfect speaker for our future camping and beach get-aways.
I got mine refurbished from Target and I am extremely happy with it for $190. Now it’s $200.for $20 for new, pretty solid deal
I use the charger for a lot of other devices which is handy.
So are you still happy? Satisfied it’s a NEW (not refurbished) genuine JBL Xtreme 4?
I am. We’ve used it a lot as a deck speaker and it’s been fantastic. The sound is “strong” and we’ve really taken advantage of the multi-speaker system with the Xtreme outside and another JBL speaker indoors.
I did wind up buying an inexpensive silicone handle to make it more ergonomic to carry. The strap has been awkward for me to use, floating somewhere between trying really hard and getting in the way. The moment I put the handle on it, though, I felt relief. As if that’s what it had been missing all along.
The battery is excellent as well, lasting long enough that I’ve been surprised when it finally needs charging. I’d have preferred an indicator on it somewhere show how much charge remains, but it’s not too inconvenient to open the JBL app and check.
All in all, it’s a phenomenal speaker and I’m looking forward to taking it camping next weekend.
I jave two extreme 2’s. They “Bump” Real Hard And Sweet!!..
Dont be afraid to get these!!
