Is the only thing that’s Japanese is the documentation, or could other actual hardware be Japanese?

Has different warrranty than if bought from Nintendo. Plus the price isn’t good. I bet this system looks cool though.

It says in the specs that this is the japanese version. So i would assume Japanese hardware. The Switch is not region locked, so it will play North America games.

Ignoring the whole “pokemon edition” thing … is OLED the new (better) display? Why?

Not worth a replacement over a regular switch if you already own one unless you do a lot of mobile gaming, the screen is bigger and looks a bit crisper/nicer. if you’re like me and the switch is docked 90% of game time there is no valid hardware change at this point to “upgrade”.

If you don’t own a switch yet it isn’t a bad starting point but the non oled can sometimes be found for a fair amount cheaper and performs as well.

As previously stated: you do not get a Nintendo Warranty. So for the rare few that are unlucky to have a console that will die after 3 months, you will be SOL. And for the rest of you who will eventually get joy-con drift, you too, will also be SOL.

Aside from the warranty, the only minor nuisance will be to switch the console to English (or any other language if Japanese is not what you want) when you first start it up. Otherwise, it will play any Switch games from any country.

So unless you have to have the Pokemon graphics on your console…

Bought one on eBay for a bit more then retail that was listed as U.S. but received Japanese model. I wasn’t happy, did a “Not as described” return at the sellers cost. Bought this one on Woot last time it was up for retail price. So a bit happier.

Was not happy that it shipped in a bubble mailer. The corners of the box were all smushed in.

Yup, Oled is better. It has better viewing angles, less energy, and the blacks are really black.

Yeah, just to answer this question I ended up upgrading to OLED since my OG finally broke, and the screen is a bit bigger with incredibly good contrast and colors. I’d say it’s not worth upgrading if you have a functioning original, but if you’re getting your first system or need a new one like I did, I do think it’s worth the extra $$.

Even with the larger screen? Or just proportionally less. Either way, that’s quite a nice feature.

Also stereo speakers built into the device, a way better kickstand, and a slightly newer revision of the well-aged Tegra processor they use. The dock also includes an Ethernet port, saving you a dongle later if you decide to play online; that’s the main reason I bought the OLED model.

Yup! The darker the color, the less power it draws

Yeah, the Switch OLED can go 4.5-9 hours compared with the original Switch, which could go for 2.5-6.5 hours.
