Darn. Not compatible with AT&T.
“The TCL TAB 10 5G is primarily designed for compatibility with T-Mobile’s network and its associated Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) such as Ultra Mobile, Mint Mobile, and Metro PCS. It may not properly support AT&T’s network.”

Should work with any WiFi, though, right?

Anyway, it’s $80 with coupon on the mothership.

Yes, any wifi. No issue

Does this use the anti glare tcl NXTPAPER tech? I know they have budget tablets and phones that use a paper like anti-glare screen.

Mothership also has 4.2 stars. Not sure why it wasn’t showing up on the front page.

Hello. Sale mentions the NXTVISION Display but no mention of anti-glare.

It should work with Mint Mobile. People sleep on them, but Mint is just repackaged T-Mobile and much cheaper.

Will this work natively on 5G tmobile tablet plan. ? Also does it have the measaging App? (Sms or text messaging)

What carrier firmware is this running? Att , tmo or Vz?

Is this VZ compatible?

Where is that spec you copied pasted? On the woot listing under specs i see unlocked for all carriers no…?

So should technically work on att too?

Nope.

Also, secret hack: apparently, T-Mobile has a $10/month 30GB data plan for “devices” that works with this thing. You have to ask for it by name AFAIK.

Same price elsewhere

You mean for the internet-only device plans?

Got any examples? This is something I’m shopping around for.

I bought one of these elsewhere earlier this year.
To answer some questions,

It is a traditional “lcd style” screen and does not use the color E-ink / transflective screen that has been shown as a prototype, or may be used on other TCL models.

It runs “unlocked” firmware without any carrier SIM restrictions or branding on my model. Think buying your phone straight from Samsung.

My post-paid Tmo SIM from my ancient Nexus 7 dropped in and worked without issue on the previously mentioned 30gb/mo data only plan.
It does include the regular Google texting Messaging app.

My only gripes are -
It always complains about “charging slowly”, even on my high-end USB-C chargers & cables that can deliver 100w. I guess the included charger is some strange proprietary fast-charge setup, but I haven’t looked into it too much.

The official OS from TCL is rather out of date, but the way Play Services now handles security updates every two months, it’s not too dangerous. I’ve not had any luck finding independent OS builds designed for this tablet as of about 6 months ago.

32gb of storage is a challenge to live with in 2024. I did put a micro SDXC in mine, but Android hasn’t let you put installed apps on a storage card in many years. Frustrating.

Finding accessories can be tricky as there are apparently similarly named tablets from TCL. That said, I have been able to find a glass screen protector, rugged-style protective case with kickstand (similar to Otterbox), and an appropriate “universal” style folio with BT keyboard from Logi.

Happy to answer any other questions as it’s sitting right next to me.

Can you link the case you got? I found, I’d say, two models on Amazon that seem to be for this specific model, but it’s not fully clear based on the reviews.

could you please list the links for all 3 items?

How is the resolution?

Any quirks?

Is it running Android 14?

What was the Woot price on this? It is not showing.

TIA.

Hope this is allowed since it’s the mothership:
“rugged” case - https://a.co/d/39hRQLM
Glass screen protector - https://a.co/d/f6IXRQm
Foilio case w/keyboard - https://a.co/d/gXRS1wb

I paid ~$100 back in May on another site, and the Woot price was $70 yesterday.

I’m sure there are quirks, but I don’t remember any bad enough that I still remember from when I was switching over to the device. I primarily use it for web and media consumption when my eyes tire of my phone screen. I’m sure it’s not “retina” resolution, but I knew it was ~1080p going in.

I just checked and the most recent OS update is Android 12 from March 2023, so I’m not holding my breath that it will ever get another official version from TCL.

In the future I will probably get a nicer wifi only tablet with more storage and use a 5g hotspot. I’ve not seen any 5g Android tablets that aren’t in the “bottom half” of specs that are out there in wifi only land.
