I’ve had my eye on this one on Amazon. Why is the Torras here so much more expensive? https://amzn.to/48Tsv9F
Most egregious of price-gouging… Woot does it, too, apparently.
Perhaps because this one can heat as well as cool? I think a turtleneck sweater would probably work as well and still leave a C-Note in your pocket after buying one and the other neck fan.
My dad got me one of the cooling versions from
Sharper Image for $50 back in the 90’s. It worked great. I would use it when mowing his lawn for him. I didn’t think it would work even a little, but it totally did. Better option now is probably one of those blue cooling towels from the dollar store for heat and a usb powered heating pad from the mothership for $15+$12 for the usb battery pack for all day warmth. I’d totally take a swing on one at the 90’s price. But triple that? No way.
Agree. Too much $$$. Bring the price down & watch them fly.
OK, so, this is way too much scratch for me as well, but having said that…
The one you linked to is basically nothing but a fan with one air passage on either side.
This thing has plates around the neck that appear to provide an instant cooling sensation (probably an evaporative effect), and the air from the fan passes by these cooling plates on the way out — of four air passages.
It has a bigger battery and fast charing.
It has an app that connects via bluetooth for control of the heating and cooling, with continuous speed controls (not 2-3 fixed speeds).
And then there’s the heating.
So it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.
This one can heat and uses a thermo electric cooler to cool your neck. The only problem with that is TECs blow out hot air on one side and get cold on the other. The device you linked is just a fan and the warmer it is the less effective it is. Fans don’t work when it is really warm unless the relative humidity is comfortable and you are sweaty.
The first thing I thought of seeing this is can I wear this riding my motorcycle and make it work? Lots of questions like would it even stay on at speed? Would it be able to do what it needs to do wearing my helmet? Then there’s safety.
It’s intriguing because both the heating and cooling functions would be useful. I wonder…
So, it works in temps up to 90 degrees. When it gets really hot outside and you need this the most what happens??
