I used to do quite a lot of camping. In cold weather and for backpacking the freeze dried food was priceless. It was also, usually, very tasteful and satisfying. If I were to repeat my adventures (highly unlikely anymore), I would buy it in a heartbeat.
For a pound (actually less – the images say 16.9, but the description says “size: 14.8 oz”) I think priceless hits a wall when the price is actually $60. That’s a very very expensive can.
It’s freeze dried. It expands in hot water to its original size and weight.
An example: “each ounce of freeze dried cooked ground beef will be the equivalent of 7-8 ounces of raw, uncooked ground beef.”
The proportions for different foods will not be the same, but freeze dried food is always much lighter than the raw product, while it retains full nutritional and almost full taste values.
Reconsider your calculations; this is really a good price for backpacking or for emergency food.
