People have to use this technology when multimillionaire companies like Aflac doesn’t accept emails for documents and require customers to use fax ![]()
. Who does that in 2021?
Aflac does it ![]()
You mean “too cheap to even send insurance cards” Aflac? Nowaiiiii.
The absolute worst I’ve ever had and am still on as well. May the odds be in your favor, fren.
Could’ve used a shorter video for the description
There are still a lot of companies who don’t accept documents by email
I take it that you didn’t watch the embedded video description. He was pretty repetitive.
Contrary, I did. And it’s just an unaffiliated review for people to get info from, not part of the OEM or Woot “description”, so nbd.
I have the two port version of this and I love it. If you are a nostalgia freak, or just want to make use of the copper wiring in your home and old phones you have lying around, and don’t want to pay for the privilege, this is the way.
My health insurance is from Blue Cross/BlueShield of Illinois. They SEND texts, emails, snail mail, & call (caller ID suppressed of course so you never know it is them) but the only way to contact them is call their 1 and only Toll Free number and spend 5 minutes working through the menu, and regardless what your problem is or how many times you key in your ID number, even when calling fro your home phone that they call you on, first you will wait at least 8-10 minutes to get a human, and then they want your member number, date of birth, and SOCIAL SECURITY number. Twenty years ago they did all there policies by Social Security number, then changed to member ID numbers to protect you from identity theft. Two years ago the started REQUIRING you give them both numbers when you call so they know it is you. And they stopped mailing ID cards, then removed your ability to print one from their member portal. Fortunately the one thing they still do well is pay the doctors and hospitals on time…
LOL. We added the video to help those that had no idea what this was.
Plain email is very much not secure. Is readable theoretically by ISP operator.
If the agent is working using a secure fax and needs signatures, maybe marginally OK reason but for technology solutions have surpassed for over a dozen years.
If professional operation, then Adobe Reader DC or DocuScan more secure, signatures lockable, and document encryptable for HIPAA compliance.
I said, ObiHai makes good products.
Omg, YES drives me nuts. I always ask why did your system ask me to put all of that in for - their response “well it didn’t populate on my screen”
Now I just say I don’t know to all the questions
Not really. You can thank the Office of Civil Rights for the HIPAA and HiTech precautions your health plan has had to put in place.
FYI, what they pay often does not cover cost of your care and EHRs that cost over $1 M every few years for software, hardware upgrades, and patches.
Also doctors actually can lose money for every visit you make. The practice gets paid a fixed amount regardless of how sick or how often you need care. Such is the US system under “managed care.” Doctors generally have zero say in this except to reject a predatory insurers rate.
Their EHR may be antiquated but saying you do not know just makes it harder/slower to locate your records and increases the risk of data loss or entered in wrong chart.
To pull your records they are linking demographic, insurance status, lab records, vaccination records, doctor notes, hospital and emergency services as well as a relational database for preventive measures due. Across potentially millions of insured lives in just one city.
Please do what they ask so you don’t get hurt by missing or cross file wrong entries in your chart.
I say I don’t know to the automated system not to the person who answers. I know my policy number. If there system didn’t make me go through the questions 20xs and then not give the agent anything, the system didn’t do squat and my record hasn’t been pulled up anywhere.
You may have the time to go through the automated process for 20 minutes just because - I don’t, nor should I have to.
I have been a member for decades and there hasn’t been an issue yet.
It is not a simple automated system. It is pulling together your record from a large number of modules - for people trying to help you. It may be antiquated as upgrades cost millions. I am explaining this as a physician and administrator.
You lose out if they cannot find your records. It does you no good to resent it. No one actually sees if you fume. It just further delays your care or gets you slowly booted out of a practice if you berate staff. They actually do not need belligerent patients.
You have been a member for decades but the systems and monitoring metrics were Federally mandated 13 years ago. Every 3-5 years major revisions and build out that you do not see. It cost Kaiser $6 billion to just roll out their initial network. It is currently much more efficiently run than your system as described. But they went through multiple, multiple revisions to get where they are now
Your care and quality assurance measurements are entirely different than it was even 15 years ago even if you do not appreciate how much has changed. Physicians in most systems are forbidden from paper notes. Everything is electronic and involves multiple relational databases. Soon to be nationally networked without your permission or mine. Goal by insurers and the feds is to reduce costs of your care as well as ensure quality of population-based care.
Your particular practice network computer system may need to be overhauled but it is far more complex than you or most patients even begin to realize.
Ok, thanks - I don’t appreciate being called belligerent or fuming, bc I do neither.
This has nothing to do with my doctors office.
I am going to pass on any further “advice” though
No one is calling you belligerent, but saying you don’t know does not help you access care. Forcing someone to enter answers for you or having to resort to that is not how systems should work and drives up staffing costs if many people do it.
If the system in use is what your doctor’s office has to use at present, it really does have all to do with how inefficiently that office is run. Else you would not be frustrated. Instead of saying you don’t know, why don’t you take screen shots of what you enter and share them with your doctor to constructively help him or her lobby to get a more current system? Though it may cost you down the line in health care premiums, at least it will not make you answer “I don’t know to all the questions.”
There are times I have fielded grievances about provider, support staff, or difficulty accessing care and I sincerely thanked the Patient for helping us to become better. Improvement first starts with discontent.
