Hi Wooters!
I thought I’d start things off with some recent tasting notes from someone at the winery. Please feel free to make comments or ask questions, and myself or Derek will be available throughout the deal to discuss.
Tasted 7/17/15
On the nose:
Dark cherry and blackberry fruit with notes of leather, casis, Adobe, orange citrus, cedar with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon.
Taste:
Opens with blackberry flavors with gentle mid palate tannins shifting to a lightly astringent finish reminiscent of white peppercorns, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Cheers,
Chris
Sounds like an interesting blend. Like the low alcohol%. I’m taking a flyer on this. Looking forward to trying it.

Or at least some approximations…
What percentage new/used?
Thanks

Great question re: the varietal breakdown, which follows:
58% Pinot Noir
18% Barbera
12% Syrah
5% Zinfandel
4% Merlot
2% Cabernet Sauvignon
1% Petite Sirah
And Red 7 was aged in approximately 20% new French oak.
A winemaker’s dream to make!
Derek

Happy to be here…thanks for having us back!
Visit us at the winery the next time you’re in San Francisco…there’s always cold beer in the fridge!
One of the most intriguing blends I’ve seen on woot.
I couldn’t help myself.
Derek, when I see blends that are a bit different I always ask what’s the inspiration behind the blend?
Thanks for your order!
I make mostly Pinot Noir and it’s my favorite varietal by a country mile.
I also make twenty other Outlier Wine Co. wines and always have small lots of wine aging in the winery.
Sometimes the wines work on their own, sometimes they’re better when blended together.
In 2012, I played around with a few lots that I liked but didn’t love on their own.
When I assembled this blend, I immediately knew we had a unique and compelling wine on our hands.
So I guess it’s a story of inspiration meets opportunity. And my love of Pinot Noir!
7/28/15 7am Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:
I just tasted some Red 7 - I know it’s early, but I’m a trained professional! - and was struck by the cherry cola and mocha notes, with a dash of cinnamon spice.
The bottle was two days old and the wine had only improved…the nose was even more expressive and the fruit was luscious.
I recommend decanting this wine, whether you open now or lay some bottles down for a few years.
I’m intrigued! Wish this shipped to CT. Maybe I’ll get to try it at a friends home

Not a fan of PN, but tastefully named rep has me thinking…
I’d love to try this but no shipping to GA…
We are actively working on Georgia!
Sorry for the delay!

It is based on PN, but it has a lot of other things going on as it is nearly half comprised of other varietals. Blending creates unique wines that are often more than the sum of the parts.
It’s also generally impossible to fully predict a blend outcome so it requires a lot of trial and error. This trial and error is one hazard of the job!
Almost always interested to try someone’s unique blend, and sounds like a great deal. In for a set!
