Woot⌠you need to change your actual business name to âWTFâ⌠because I havenât been saying âWoot!â a whole lot anymore⌠now itâs more like âWTF?â⌠82% off? I almost bought 3 of these thinking⌠âWow nice!â
just to go look and find out that this isnât a deal at all.
This is flat out dishonest. This isnât the first item either.
Itâs based off of this Amazon listing, which has a list price of $29.99, so thatâs the issue which I have with this.
Thanks for the note on the reference price. We import most of these from Amazon or the vendor. In some cases, the import is pulling old data. There are just too many for us to catch them all with our current systems. So for now, just ignore them please.
I need clarification on something thatâs becoming increasingly concerning⌠I think everyone on Woot does.
From what Iâm seeing, a seller inflates pricing at a single data point, exports data to hand off to WOOT or other locations which then makes the item appear heavily discounted, and that information is then posted as a âdeal.â
If thatâs whatâs happening, YOUR customers are being misled into believing theyâre getting exceptional value when the pricing context isnât legitimate.
Why isnât there a process to verify seller claims or review pricing data before listings go live?
This isnât the first time Iâve noticed something like this, and it gives the impression that sellers understand how to game the system while Woot simply passes the information through.
This erodes trust.
I purchased several hundred items from Woot in 2025 alone, and now I find myself questioning listings because it doesnât appear this issue is being taken seriously.
We know that most wooters are very smart and check prices before purchasing. Weâre glad that you do.
We are getting thousands of items a week to put up on our site. However, weâre a very small team. We have to choose between putting up lots of good deals or putting up very few deals with maybe more correct info. Weâd rather pass the good deals on to our customers.
Many (most?) of our deals come from Amazon and the backend database that we pull from will often have old and incorrect data. The reference price (aka MSRP) is almost always a made-up price by someone - manufacturing, marketing people, retailers, etc. Same with cars, appliances, etc.
If they bother you, ignore them. Weâre not going to have time to check all. Iâm sorry.
I genuinely care about Woot. If this were just another website to me, I wouldnât bother reaching out or offering to help.
I can actually solve this problem for you if youâd allow me. I have a 30-year career in software development and currently work as a Senior Application Developer and Team Lead. Building systems that analyze data, detect anomalies, and enforce logic at scale is literally my bread and butter.
The pricing verification issue youâre dealing with is very solvable. Automated checks against historical pricing, market comparisons, and pattern detection to flag artificial inflation before listings go live are all straightforward to implement, even across thousands of products.
Iâm not trying to criticize anyone or point fingers. Iâd simply rather help fix something that directly impacts customer trust. I love Woot, and I want to see it remain a place where deals are genuinely exciting, not questionable.
To put it bluntly, I was ready to buy three â88% offâ monocular telescopes before realizing the pricing didnât make sense. Thatâs the kind of thing that ends up sitting in a drawer instead of building long-term confidence in the platform.
If youâre open to it, Iâd be happy to discuss how I could help design or build a system that strengthens pricing integrity. Iâd rather be part of the solution than just another person pointing out the problem.
Thanks.

Nothing unusual about that. If I had no experience actually using the platform or being actively involved with it, what Iâm saying would carry less weight. The facts wouldnât change, but it would raise the question of whether I have any real investment in how the platform operates.
old logo so yeah itâs definitely closed
I remember the Old Woot. They had free popcorn and a bathroom attendant. We used to go there on Saturday and rent movies for 99 cents a night. I once rehomed a box of kittens in their parking lot.
Maybe this is how this story begins? ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Has that kind of vibe to it⌠doesnât it?
Thanks for letting me know.
Bathroom âattendantâ or

Iâm the prefect fit for that job.
As for software, I know itâs a computery thing that makes it go.
I am only intoxicated after lunch, so all morning Iâm pretty good to go.
Iâd also prefer to be paid in cash, unmarked bills in a plain envelope.
Let me know when to show up!
well youâre getting $1 soon so it sounds like youâre hired
Wow, we are twins!
Heâs getting paid more than you do?!?
For those considering the monocular. I received the monocular today. Although it looks very similar, it is NOT the Pankoo monocular that is identified at Woot.com. The Pankoo monocular received 4.3 amazon stars (4311 reviews). The monocular I received has no brand name but contains packaging and a monocular container/bag that appears to match the MCOTOP Monocular Telescope listed on Amazon for $9.99 (2.3 amazon stars; 3 reviews). Magnification of the monocular received is only 10X. I will be returning once the return button appears on my order.
