Polk Audio RM7400T/RM40T Tower Speakers - Pair
amazon sells it cheaper… is amazon used?

Since you cant read, even 4 posts above you:
Amazon is selling a single speaker. Woot is selling a PAIR of speakers. To get two speakers at Amazon, you have to pay $249 x 2 which is $500. That is not cheaper, unless you are as bad at math as you are at reading

Personally I’d probably try to spend a bit more $$$ and get this one

Once again, not audiophile quality, but very nice sound for a decent $$$. You might even try ebay. I’d recommend something 10-inch and 200-watt Continuous.

Fry’s has an online deal for some polk speakers, two way, 2 mids, 1 tweeter that seem to be the same size at $70 each (so $140 for the pair).

these are they:

at frys
vs

from woot.

Did anyone get the “Ode to Billy Joe”?

Alright, I bought one set - my first official woot (other than wine woot, of which I’ve only bought one so far).

Now I won’t have to use the speakers on my TV anymore, and these can be the fronts for the 5.1 system I’ll build up slowly.

Link fixed. The ones linked have only one driver, not two.

Looks like they would make a nice set of rear speakers for a 5.1 setup.

really long link
One call has these for $249.00
They’re on Ebay (NEW) for $238.00

No one will probably see this post on pg 6 but that’s my 2¢
That is for a single speaker. Not for 2.

dmax801 did on page 3. But I as well can’t believe it hasn’t be commented on more, it is so obvious. Is is a lack of exposure to the original? There was a questioning reference to Fres Prince of Bel Air, and a question if it was poetry. So a few were trying to figure it out.

I guess Wooters need more exposure to the pop culture references of my youth.

Try, ShopOnkyo.com. Join and get $10 off your 1st purchase. The refurbished stuff is great and comes like new. Normally there are batteries in the box, even though they have a disclaimer.

Basic 5.1 entry receiver:

Better yet:
Tx-SR505

sad, very sad. all that great sound you’re missing

on the 2nd one, what does the HDMI interface get you? can you HDMI from your DVD to your reciever, then from the audio reciver to the LCD? does this reduce the Lag you sometime experience?

yeah… ow… wow…

listen up people, if you have to ask question about connecting these to your TV, computer, VW microbus… just do yourself a favor and don’t buy these, the setup is definitely beyond you.

4.5" woofers? lol
16lbs for a tower? rotflmao I recently bought a set of 5.5" bookshelf speakers and each speaker weighs more than the pair of these. Yeah, your wife tells you size (and weight) don’t matter, but in your heart you know she’s just trying to make you feel better about yourself…

This my friends is pure marketing magic… take a brand name that used to be quality, start churning out cheap speakers by the thousands, slap that label on them and ship them out to Best Buy. Uh, these are POLKS man!

I’d pay $50 tops for these things. For $300 a pair you could get some real speakers, and these aren’t them.
Again, if you don’t know what I mean by real speakers, then don’t go impulse buying speakers off the internets!

I am an audiophile, and Polk makes some very decent speakers. These definetly require a subwoofer, given the bass driver(s) being 4.5". As part of a home theatre, these would work very well with the matching center, surrounds and good powered (active) subwoofer of 10 inches or more. For music, these probably wouldn’t “wow” most people. Solid woot, given Polk’s reputation for quality and durability. Just make sure you price the matching center and surrounds - voice matching is critical in a good 5.1 or 7.1 system.

The HDMI connection makes things easy. HDMI allows you move both the Video and Audio on one cable. You can hook up all your HDMI stuff to the Receiver (Rx) and have the Rx do the switching. This saves having to setup multiple cords and connections from each source. You would just leave the TV/Monitor set to the Rx input, and the Rx will move the signal to the TV from your DVD/BR Player/HDSat Box/Tivo/etc. This is helpful when you have only one HDMI input on your TV and multiple HDMI sources.

As far as lag, these things have manual timing adjustments so your DVD’s voices match up with the mouths on the screen.

Yes I saw your post… apparantly you didn’t see the other posts before yours. Those links that you provided are for SINGLE speakers. That means that the price is for one speaker, not a pair. They are $249 EACH on Amazon which makes them $498 for the pair. Woot pwns them all.

will this reciever pass through both digital video and audio? I have seen some versions that just pass through video.

thanks for the info by the way

I’d say you are wrong. These will make many people very happy if made part of a complete 5.1 system for home theater use. A good center channel, (from this line would be best to “match sound”) 2 small rear speakers and an active sub. Hook it up to your surround receiver and I bet these sound great for movies. I’m sure that setup would sound better than the majority of Bose satellite speaker package out there.

These would make a nice looking set of rears to a better setup as well.

Now, if looks don’t matter, start with these:

Althena B1’s

I’m not sure.

Just WOOTED!

quote postid=“1500155” user=“BigTex71”]Have you ever heard of Onix, B&W, Paradigm, Swan, Vandersteen, Monitor Audio, Focal, Wharfedale, Anthony Gallo, or Axiom? All of those (even the cheapest series of each line) are much better than Polk.

You may as well jump on the Bose bandwagon, too, while you’re at it.
OMG. After so many years, SOMEONE else has finally mentioned Vandersteen. My older brother purchased some of these years ago and they’re still going strong. Only problem was the price >$2000.00 ea. I guess that it doesn’t matter much with the other equipment that was used with it. . .(Linn Axis Turntable, Onkyo Cd, Various Denon High end bits and Yamaha Natural sound Items). All said, when cost is an issue, then these Polks do not even fall into that class of speaker. That’s like comparing a Hyundai Tiburon to a Bugatti Veyron on the premise that both are sports cars, but there’s an obvious difference here. Price class and the fact that one is an exotic while the other is mass produced. Try not to hurt 'em too much.
