Woot’s going to the mattresses. When Johnny Sack and the boys hear about this . . . there’s gonna be mayhem.
We’ll see this in the real b****ag of c****rap offering
Just for the record, I own one of these in king size and it’s hot as fark in the summer time.
Incredibly comfortable still, just hella hot.
I live in Texas that’s probably part of the problem. But since it’s king I don’t sleep anywhere NEAR my husband (nicknamed the furnace) and I still feel like I’m melting at night. But I wonder how much it is transferring his heat throughout the mattress since memory foam is by nature heat activated…If you sleep by yourself though I’m sure it would be cooler. (And if you live more north!) Hope that helps some people. ![]()
Can someone who owns memory foam already tell me how long the foam keeps its “spring”
is it going to last for years?

Mmm we’ve had ours for about 3 years and it is still like new. That’s as far as I’ve got in my own experience
I think it’s attached as it is on a traditional mattress.
I’m surprised there’s been so much misinformation about the shipping costs going around so far. Common sense should tell you that while a <$5 item is generally not going to cost $5 to ship, that is factored into the price. So say you see a $1 item on sale with $5 shipping…is that a ripoff? No, because Woot probably figures you’re going to buy three of them and they’ve (gasp!) done the math and it still works out to their benefit to ship three of these items for a total of $8 via Smartpost. See, they’ve figured the price of the item into the shipping which makes it initially appear so cheap. Now take this mattress into account. The shipping cost isn’t just coming from some giant pool that they’ve collected from shipping small items for outrageously high prices. They’ve clearly figured the cost of shipping into the price of the item, which I’m sure they got hugely discounted in bulk in the first place. So say they paid $200 for each mattress (purely a guess) and shipping costs them $50 for each (again, no idea). They sell one of these for $300 with $5 shipping, and they’re still making back $55 per mattress. They’re probably assuming that the vast majority of people will only buy one (and if you look at the quantity breakdown, this rings true). Let’s take a look at the worst-case scenario for Woot here. Someone orders three, and Woot still only charges them the $5 shipping. So, still assuming that each mattress costs $50 to ship (and completely disregarding any bulk shipping discount), Woot is paying $250 to ship each mattress, whereas the buyer is paying $905 to have three matresses shipped to his/her home. Well, when you do them math, Woot is still making $51.67 off of each of these, which, while less than $55, certainly doesn’t hurt since they just sold three mattresses and pocketed over $150! I just want to clear up any misunderstandings about how Woot handles shipping, and this outrageous idea that there’s some pool of shipping cash that Woot occasionally dips into so they can ship these larger items for only $5 each.
My girlfriend has one of those “bob-o-pedics”, and I can definitely say that the memory foam traps heat. Not so much an issue for someone small, but when you’re a big dude, you really feel it in the summer months.
On that note, if you are in a building with no A/C, these memory foam mattresses become softer in the summer. Memory foam uses heat as an energy source to form to whatever weight is being pressed on the surface, and I can say from experience that the mattress is much harder (and more comfortable for me) when the room is 60 vs the 80’s-90’s of the summer months. Not a big deal, but the fact that the firmness changes with climate is something someone needs to take into consideration when buying one of these mattresses.
Also, in reference to the “sweating” issue - bob’s furniture sells a plasticky cover that goes over the mattress-it acts like a mattress pad, but is impermeable to moisture. It definitely preserves the feel (and smell) of the mattress, and I highly recommend getting one. They can be found in any store selling memory foam, and usually online. You can get a good one for $50-$100, and add years to the mattress life.

What…? No boxspring?

You can use anything with a foam mattress you don’t need a special one. Even a DIY platform bed…
HA
Can anyone tell me if there is any manufacturer warranty?? I REALLY need to know this for sure before i decide!

How do they ship it for $5?
They don’t. It’s a $100 mattress and they ship it for $105. (At least that’s what I assume.)

Actually they vacuum pack it and send it. It gets pretty small for a mattress, but then if you think about it its just special foam.
Then you have to let them unfold and acclimate for about 24-48 hours.
The pillow top is not separate. It looks like that just to be pretty. I don’t feel hotter on memory foam as opposed to any other mattress
My husband and I had one of these for a short while. We paid around $600 for ours, so it wasnt a cheap one…We woke up every night sweating…It was miserable, I hated this mattress…We also found that over a very short period of time, it had “indents” from where we slept, it was like trying to roll out of a hole to roll over or get out of the bed…The mattress gots Alzheimers pretty soon after the purchase!!
I dunno. I’ve got a $3-4K Stearns and Foster version that is actually cooler than a normal matress. It’s got a memory foam top, or some version of it. Or, I just really got taken. Could be that.
they do get hot in the summer but that’s what air conditioning is for and the comfort and the best night sleep you’ll ever have is great!!!
I bought a low-end memory foam mattress from Overstock back in January and was disappointed. The mattress does get hot. There are several other quality brands, Tempurpedic, IsoForm, and essentia all claim to have a “cooling” technology.
I wanted a memory foam mattress for so long…then, I got one…it’s like sleeping on a heating pad at night. Terribly hot.
I bought a similar bed from Walmart(queen) and sleep very well on it. I keep my air conditioning turned down cool and have an overhead fan so I have none of the problems concerning heat. Another thing, once the mattress expands, it is not going back in the box as it does not fold back up very easily, if at all. I cant fold mine in half by myself. It would take four healthy thugs to fold it into quarters. On the other hand, for this price it is probably a safe bet, at least for a starter mattress.
There is no such thing as “an entire mattress of memory foam.” This woot, your Sealy, and a real tempurpedic all only have approx. 3" of memory foam on top of a big chunk of poly foam (non-memory foam). You would NOT want to sleep on 10" of pure memory foam… you could very well sink all the way to the bottom. The base underneath the 3" memory foam is what actually gives the support.
