Retro 2-Slot Hot Dog Toaster

Retro 2-Slot Hot Dog Toaster

Don’t the hot dogs require way longer cooking time than toasting the buns? Are the example photos deceptive in that you’d normally wouldn’t do both dogs and buns together?

Well my significant other and I were looking at this…many questions ourselves…but at 12 bucks, I guess we can order one and see for ourselves!

Yes, they do. I bought this thing at a prior sale. What I do is load it up with the buns and dogs and let it do a cycle. I pull out the buns and while I’m dressing them with relish, onions, etc. let the dogs have some extra time in the cooker. If yer feeling fancy, turn the dogs a quarter turn so they’ll get more even heat.

I use the Aldi buns and Aldi bun-length hot dogs.

For $12, eh, why not but really one doesn’t “need” this gizmo.

Mine cooks them both at the same time. We like it so well we got one for the lake home too. It would be really great for kids, dorm rooms, etc. as well. This is the best price I’ve seen; we paid a few bucks more.

I think the hot dog is getting more direct heat from the coils and the bun is getting indirect heat based on the design. I’ve had one for years. We put it all in at once, my biggest complaint is that some hot dogs are just a little too long so the one end doesn’t get cooked. I usually flip it and drop it for a second time to get the end cooked and the dog really hot. I only do the bun on the first cycle though.

I’m not sure whether it cooks well or not is the point. It seems to me that the best use for this is for a Christmas gift - maybe at the office party or the like.

Oh, it cooks fine, for a hotdog toaster. Maybe “warms” might be a better term, but it browns my dogs and toasts my buns adequately.

And at $12, not bad to put in your closet for a modest wedding/Christmas/office gift. You’ll still have money left over to buy them some hotdog, buns and fixin’s.

I snagged one of these for $12. I figured why not, it’s worth a shot. My thought was I could use it for my kids, and occasionally bring to work and have a hot dog lunch day for my staff. It seems like I could do that right in my office and cleanup would be fairly easy. But if nothing else… kids.
