It comes in a perfectly sized cardboard box, that with a little (or a lot) of duct tape will become a very worthy case for years to come.

Ryobi is always the cheapest for a reason, and it’s a refurb on top of that… I’d be weary of this one.

I have no problem with refurbished products, but couple that with a bad brand and the odds this being an expensive paperweight in the next few years is quite high. I respect the tools I own but they suffer quite a bit of wear and tear through regular use and none of the Ryobi tools I’ve purchased hold up like the name brand alternatives.

It would make a great paperweight though.

Notable feedback I found on the exact product from Home Deeeeeeep oh

Do not buy this product . I bought the 18 inch bar model RY10518 in 2012, used it seven times and drained after use. The saw was not abused ,but only used to cut downed limbs in my back yard. The last time I went to use the saw it started up, I started cutting and the throttle stayed stuck at high RPMs as if the throttle was stuck. I had to used the stop switch or the saw would have blown up. I tried restarting the saw It immediately went to high RPMs and would not stop. I called the Ryobi customer service number provided with the paper work when purchased and described the problem. They told me to bring the saw to an authorized service center. I brought it to the service center, they checked the saw, told me it was a carburator problem. They told me the carburator on these saws are not serviceable at all and would cost me $xxx.00 dollars to replace the carburator. This saw cost $xxx. at Home De**** new that I had just purchased 4 months prior. Home Depot told me the saw had a three year warranty, a good selling point at the time and good price. Ryobi says carburator is not covered , because it contains fuel and is considered a fuel issue carbs are not covered, as well as the engine. So any screw is covered but not any part of the working components of the saw. This saw is a cheap, deposable piece of junk and I would not recommended anyone buy a Ryobi gas powered product at all as all the products have the same warranty. The warranty is poor and so is the service/ support of the company is disappointing. I have many gas power products that I have purchased and maintained over the years. I have never had such a poor quality disposable product before you can buy a top of the line saw that has a good warranty and will last. Spend a little more money and buy a top brand saw. that lasts more than 4 months. Home d**** should discontinue selling this product.

Might be worth a try for me if it came with a case. If a Woot rep might confirm what is included (They sometimes include a bar adjustment tool also…) that would be appreciated!

A new condition/newer model rated 3.5 out of 5 stars is available with a case for $179 at The Home Depot

You are right that “it doesn’t say” as far as having a case. But what it does say in the description is,
In the Box:
• (1) Ryobi ZRRY10518 18" 46cc Gas Chainsaw

I think it is pretty clear there is just the saw and no case.

For light duty use I recommend an electric chainsaw. My 14" Harbor Freight unit costs $50.

I do not doubt what you have stated and frankly, that is good enough for me when it comes to a refurb of a unknown name brand. However BBB rating is an A+ for this company and resolving issues is one of the reasons for getting the A+. Also, going along with your expieriance is seems ‘warranty issues’ is one of the biggest complaints they have but they also (according to the BBB) seem to work with the buyer on those issues. You may want to contact the BBB with your complaint. Below is a link to the BBB with company rating.

My old man told me to buy Husqy saws, and he was a pretty smart man.
That being said, I know they’re quite a bit more.

The thing with this saw regardless of brand is you can’t return it, period. At least if you spend $50 more and buy at Home depot, you can return it. From woot, you’re taking a $104 gamble. Not worth it in my opinion

“Hey! HEY! IT’S IMPORTANT YOU READ THIS! This here Chain Saw requires fuel, so it can’t be returned to Woot. Once you hit that big yellow button, it’s yours. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. But you are still covered by the Manufacturer for warranty claims. We have enough broken crap around here, we don’t need yours cluttering up the place.”

Rofl, the BBB, do people actually still trust those crooks? Anyone can “earn” an A rating by paying their $425 extortion to become an “accredited” member. Even companies that don’t even exist.

I received a 12 pc Ryobi tool set a few years back for Father’s Day. The tools are cheaply made and don’t last long if you put them to work. Once broken, getting them repaired under warranty is also a pain in the neck, and costly due to shipping costs.
I won’t own this brand again.

DO NOT TOUCH THIS THING WITH A 10 FOOT POLE…

honestly chainsaws is something you cant go cheap on or you get like 1 year of use and it dies

I back your comment up 100%. My cheap chainsaw lasted about a season and a half. Now it’s good for nothing but a Polish ax.

A bit late for Halloween, innit?
Save for next year, I guess.

One way to keep a tool like this working for more than a season or two is to use the right fuel and to maintain it properly.

That means:

  1. STAY AWAY from the ethanol fuels. Use ethanol free fuel, and your small engines will love you for it.
  2. Keep your chain oil topped off. This will keep your chain and bar happy.
  3. Clean out the air filter every few hours of work.
  4. If you’re not going to use it for more than a month, drain the fuel, and run it empty.

For fuel, it’s hard to find good ethanol gasoline any more, and I almost gave up on my chainsaw (an old Homelite that I picked up off the side of the road when a neighbor moved away). It wouldn’t start, and no amount of coaxing or priming would get it working.

As a last ditch effort, I picked up a bottle of something called Trufuel, and it (combined with some carb cleaner on the first fire up) turned my chainsaw into a roaring monster.

It’s ethanol free, and has a great shelf life. If the chainsaw here is anything like mine, then a quart bottle (around $4.50) will last most of a year (I’d say maybe 20 or so hours of active cutting).

I wouldn’t power my mower with Trufuel, but for my small, infrequently used engines I’m hooked. No more mixing, no more worries about fuel lines rotting out.

They offer it in no oil, 40:1, and 50:1 mixes, and I’m pretty sure this chainsaw will use the 50:1 mix.

My brother has this saw. He has had it for about a year and it works ok. The biggest probelem he has is that he has to drain the chail oil out of it after every use or it leaks out and makes a mess. Its cheap but works ok for what he uses it for.

I personally wouldnt buy it if I was in the market for a chainsaw.

Just to clarify:

A case is not included

The Combination Tool is included.
