We got this for my parents from Newegg (also refurbished). I’m not someone that is super picky about sound, but I do like good sound. This bar (especially for the price) was a great improvement over the sound from their 30" Samsung. It fills the room great, several modes to choose from, and you could feel the sub. Love that it’s bluetooth as well so that they can easily play music from their phones or iPads. Works great and they were really pleased.
Without bluetooth, does this connect to tv (or receiver) through basic audio cables? I see USB in there and I am hoping that is only for the possible bluetooth as my tv has no USB port.
Says 3.5mm to RCA so basically a headphone jack plugging into the regular RCA. I’ve seen reviews mentioning optical cables not being included so that may also be a method.
Can something like this “just work” or is it another device to manage in the AV system?
I’d like to improve the sound on my SO’s television without adding another remote or other complexity to her system. She likes things simple and I respect that. She has a Sceptre TV and the built-in speakers are tinny and cheap-sounding.
When we have movie night or watch sports at her place I hook up some computer speakers (sub and satellite system) and I have to use the non-variable RCA audio out from the TV. The headphone jack is variable but produces a loud hum when connected this way. What I end up with is audio I have to adjust with a knob on the subwoofer. OK for movie night but not OK for daily viewing.
I have vaguely heard that some sound bars work with speaker-level input without hum, some that hum, etc. I could use a line-level converter if need be.
I want to be able to set and forget the max volume for the sound bar and have that persist though power outages, not ever mess with another remote, etc. Adapting that headphone out to my computer speakers might be better for this.
Is this sound bar (or a different one) a step in the right direction or is it going to be more stuff for her to manage?
Token dumb guy question: I’ve got a PS3 and Wii U that I would want to run through this. Can I just have those hooked up to my TV, then run the sound through this set up? I would plan to play music off my iPad or phone through bluetooth, and am hoping to have the other two devices work through the TV…along with the actual TV sound.
