I was glad to get this one in the 512 gb version but a couple things you need to know.

  1. The ‘updated’ Android slows this down terribly especially when browsing Woot.com
in Mobile mode. The hardware should keep up fine, but not as delivered. It does get
one last update to Android 13 supposedly. Hopefully it will sort things out. For now
the Desktop Mode is trickier to use, but helps me when trying to get the Woot site to
respond to finger or item touches. (Enlarging is often necessary)

  2. The Scratch and Dent phones are fine, but the S-pens are a little too beat. Perhaps
the refurbished phone S-pens fare better? The pens are a pain to replace as the
market is flooded with fakes. It would be helpful to know if the S23 S-pen is either
identical or compatible because they are more readily available, but
    predictably not cheap.

Mind you, I am not always up to fixing something out of the box for even the simplest
of problems, even for a good deal, so take this with a grain of salt. Perhaps you
might even share your solutions.

Good to know. Is there a safe way to do a roll back to a prior OS version? I have seen the same on a different device (tablet where progressive updates overwhelmed dated hardware). Though the Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5G is recent vintage and it is surprising that the update did this.

Try power down completely. Wait 15 min (maybe not needed). Power back up. In some cases that can help some. Kindly let us know if it does.

I have done that without results, but the update to Android 13 is
Supposed to help. As I understand it, after the update to 12 I think
the process runs extra and unnecessary things in the background that
bog it down. However my experience with slowdown is only online. My
S9 fared much better on the slower 4G Lte. Sad considering the I only
got it for the 5G upgrade.

Downgrading to a previous build as far as I know can only be done from
a saved backup madebefore upgrading. Not really an option because it ships
‘updated.’ I blocked new updates when I got it because updates often delete
features and support for some programs I use, and I wasn’t sure what would
break this time. I will either have to try I guess or downgrade the phone to a
Doorstop.

If I want to get things done for now, I use something else or move at a snail’s
pace. I’m guessing if it isn’t fixed already it will happen when Samsung isn’t
too busy with the current Flagship phones.

I’ve been using note 9’s (I am hard on devices and frequently break & replace) for nearly 5 years now. I love the Samsung Note series & I love the stylus. However, I break/lose them (the stylus) frequently and have found myself purchasing replacements four or five at a time and I find the best prices on eBay. To avoid the fakes, I pay close attention to the seller rating and reviews. If they have sold several hundred and have a 99% or better seller rating with the claim that they are genuine Samsung… They probably are and in the event they are not, you have cause for a justifiable claim through eBay. At this point there are 2 or 3 sellers that are my go to and I have purchased so often I typically make an offer below the asking price and get it. I figure because of both the quantity and my purchase history with the merchant. I don’t expect a decent stylus to arrive with the phone purchased here on Woot when it states clearly in the description that, “Included accessories may not be OEM”. With that I have the expectation that all included accessories will be crap. Now to decide if Woot or eBay has better prices for this item. I would really like the 512GB, or at least the 256GB… So I will most probably be spending my money elsewhere.
