Scheppach Oscillating Spindle Sander

Let’s learn all about seppach.com

Anybody have much experience with this company? Never heard of them, and reviews seem to be kind of scarce, which always scares me.

Now this thingamabob looks like you can call it a doodad or doohickey.

No experience with them either, but it does have a cast iron top, so that’s a big plus. Even if it is a cheap tool, it’s hard to find a good cast iron top on much in that price range these days.

This and the powertec OS-1000 appear to be of the same design.

Amazon reviews are good.

This appears to be a very similar design to my Craftsman Professional oscillating spindle sander and I love that one. For the price, I would roll the dice.

If you’re a woodworker, or if you merely try at woodworking once in a while, you can not live without an oscillating spindle sander. This machine makes all the difference in the world to your woodworking projects. It’s the ONLY way to get a smooth, professional, unbroken curve to your wood shapes…it’s the only way. It’s hard to believe that an oscillating sander can make such a huge difference, but it does.

Regarding the cost…

If this machine is made in Germany or the US as suggested, it’s a very good buy. It is not beyond Scheppach to buy a product from China with its own logo on it, however. Frankly, I don’t believe you have too much to worry about on that score, as I think it’s made here in the US.

While a good bit more, the one I know people used to recommend was the Ridgid one, via Home Depot, model EB4424.

Seems (visually at least) near the same as the Grizzly G0723 too.

I hope you’re right but I really doubt it.

Of course made in China. Bought one on Amazon. It is packed upside down and quite poorly. The spindle had poked through the bottom of the box and was bent beyond use. Amazon would not replace only refund. I ordered another but it was never shipped. Oh Well? It did seem solid and well made but never got to use it.

WOnder how this Woot compares to the Harbor Freight offerings:

Well, sorry folks but I was wrong. This oscillating spindle sander is made in China with the Scheppach logo all over it. As such, it’s only an okay buy which can easily be beat from any distributor selling Chinese made tools.

Not unsurprisingly.

The weird part is that it looks exactly like the Delta OSS I used to have that I bought in the 90s. My concern with this or any other unit would be whether it had a universal motor or an induction motor driving the thing.

Speaking of Chinese, after woot shipping it is about the price as the HF:

It seems to come with the same bits too, however I think the woot offering looks better. Both claim to have cast tops, dust collection, etc etc

Really need to find more info on this. I would certainly volunteer for woot to send me one for free so I can review it and give you guys a more informed buying decision.

I also agree that it looks better than the Harbor Freight offering.

From the picture I thought at first it was a fancy European toy version of Noah’s Ark. If it doesn’t work as a sander, give it to your kids with some plastic animals.

According to the Craftsman (21500) unit description: "The Craftsman Portable Oscilallating Spindle Sander features a powerful 1/4 hp direct drive induction motor and an extra-large, cast-iron aluminum work table. "

Of course, it also says a cast-iron aluminum work table.

Putting an order in for one.

I’ve had a RIDGID Oscillating Edge/Belt Spindle Sander for 14 years and have never had a problem with it, and it gets used more than I ever thought I’d use it. I didn’t pay $200 for it at the time, but it’s worth the price. Mine isn’t the newer orange color, but it’s the same model, just in gray with orange trim.

I think for the price difference, $80 more, I will go for the HD spindle/belt machine. Although I have a benchtop belt sander, having one that will give an absolutely perpendicular edge is a great plus.

Also, less hassle if something goes wrong, just a quick ride to HD. My experience is that shipping heavy stuff like this that may not be well packaged is a risk - again, the hassle factor.

BTW, if anyone wants a Delta machine, I picked one up at a garage sale lacking the spindles, never got them. Will sell it cheap if you can come up with the spindles.
