What does everyone else think?
Why hasn’t anybody else thought of this before?
They’ve addressed this before. The ephemeral nature of Woot product inventory prohibits effective site search functionality. Consider that the lifespan of an item ranges from literal minutes to days. A search function would have to be constantly re-scanning, updating, and removing inventory. This feature would be computationally expensive, and given that popular items already frequently crash their servers, Woot isn’t in a position to cause more stress to their mystical back-end workings.
TL;DR: search wouldn’t work well because things come and go quickly and Woot servers are already doing the best they can <3
I think a search tool is #1 on our list, for years. I woulsd also a Save For Later section in shopping cart. Sometimes I want to look at more reviews or just think about it. But my only choice is to remove the item, and may nevergo back to it.
There are a few third-party websites that do this, like wootsearch and wootstalker. Even using these, you can see they don’t update quickly enough to accurately capture what is and isn’t available at any given moment on Woot.
Anyway, the unchecked chaos of blind consumerism is what makes Woot! so special
Just bookmark it.
You smart!
While I like the idea of a bookmark, printing off the pages I want to go back to, and marking them with ketchup for priority, often feels like a hassle.
Have you considered photoshoping it to include the ketchup so you don’t have to walk all the way to the fridge?
A search would be very simple. The reason those 3rd party sites don’t work well is because they have to scan the woot! site content remotely. If the woot! monkeys wanted a search, they could write one very easily, and it wouldn’t put any weird load on the servers. I manage a web application for a living (among other things) and it has a bitchin’ search function that I wrote 100% custom… and the server handles it just fine.
Edit: I feel like they haven’t added a search function cause it makes the site seem more mysterious… and you have to sift through everything, possibly seeing something else that you didn’t know you needed and end up impulse buying. Something along those lines probably.
@davejlives I need a Woot WOOT ketchup gun. Please?
Daddy Amazon won’t give them the money to do it.
