All I know is that I have had the fanciest of all litter boxes since they started coming out way back… The self cleaning ones leave stuff behind in the box (especially with cheap litter) and guess what… You still have to throw out the :poop: after it goes into some resevoir, that guess what… You still have to clean out (scrub) from time to time.

I have had the pellet ones. Cool, until you forget to change the pad after a couple days. :scream:

Seriously… Get a regular box with a flapdoor and a mat they step out on to break up their paws and release any litter. Buy the SLIDE litter. Heavier and a bit more money BUT lasts three times as long so price is cheaper in long run.

Trust me. Lots of kitteh poo cleaned by me… :raising_hand_woman:t3:

Yeah was just hoping to find something a bit easier for my elderly Father who’s had a hip replacement who absolutely loves his kittehs but it’s a tad difficult for him to scoop two boxes twice a day… :black_cat: :black_cat:

When the pandemic hit, I determined that it was the right time to adopt my kitty as I would be home all the time. I was ready for both the responsibility of pet ownership and for the mutual enjoyment of that relationship.

BUT…

The biggest obstacle for me was the litter box. I no longer wanted to “scoop poop” and I NEVER wanted to have that ammonia smell or :poop: aroma in my home. And yet, my feline companion would always be indoors.

For me, the solution was absolutely a self-cleaning litter box. While I don’t consider myself elderly, I still have lower back issues that factored in as well. When I started shopping around and reviewing all available options, there were definitely a wide range of products available - with pros and cons for each.

While I can’t speak to or about this particular product offered, I CAN share with you that SELF-CLEANING is highly recommended by me and is the way to go. Since I purchased one in June 2020, I have never once smelled ammonia or :poop: in my home. Nor have I scooped a single :poop: My only maintenance is 1X a month, I slide out a tray and throw it in the trash bag. Slide in a new tray, and my precious Pepita does a Snoopy dance on her back as she dances with glee! Let me repeat, I only have to swap a tray ONCE a month. Zero scooping. Zero smells.

If multiple cats are using the same litter box, then the frequency of the litter tray swaps would obviously increase. But there is NO comparison to the concept of scooping twice a day as you describe that your father is currently doing VS swapping out a litter tray 2-3X a month. And as @hoobahoo mentioned, I have a litter collecting mat at the entrance/exit of the litter box, which collects most of the extra litter clinging to her paws (if any) when she exits.

Get your Dad a self-cleaning litter box for his kitties. He and his loving feline family members will love you for it. :heart_eyes_cat:

That is awesome! That is a main reason my elderly mom has no companion since she can’t take care of the box. :frowning: I haven’t had luck with just a trash bag making it all the easier, even with an electronic box. Please send me the set up you have if it really works. That slide litter though really makes a difference. When we visit my mom we buy the cheap stuff for a one fill in a regular box and I feel bad because that stuff gets every where!

And also, a main hardship for my mom is the weight of the litter and buying and pouring it.

We got one that pulls a rake across the litter and deposits the… deposits in a reservoir. A few weeks after we got it, Damien learned that the thing was self-cleaning and he just said to hell with covering his shit if the big box thing will do it for him. Sometimes that cat is too damned smart for his own good.

Same here and same/similar product. But my Pepita still likes to do her thing first before the litter box does it’s thing 15 minutes later. She is very particular about her :poop:
