Agree with both comments above. Got them from amazon about 20 years ago and would buy again in a hearthbeat if for any reason I needed another set.
Two thumbs up and five stars product.

I always did pretty well toting my dolly strap free

They look like they would be ideal for a 200lb-300lb two person dolly. Now that Toys-R-Us is a thing of the past, I am not sure where to look for one it that weight class. Would be cool though, then bring on those dolly straps!

Questions for those who have used it:

  1. Did you have any of the following problems?
  2. How might you suggest overcoming them?

There are 3 things that concern me from the low star reviews:

  1. The harness size is not adjustable, so shorter people said the buckle hung down at their thighs or even knees - making it hard to walk and hard to reach the item with their hands to steady it. Even those who didn’t have that problem said the harness would slip off their shoulders.

  2. The long strap has a good width, but is still only one long point of contact and some people had trouble balancing/steadying items. Also, it has no grip, so some items would slide along it. Would adding a layer of the grippy liner used under futon mattresses help, or just get in the way?

  3. Some people said the strap came loose in the buckle when going up or down stairs (when the angle changed). It’s there a way to reinforce this? Also, when moving a smaller item, what do you do with the extra length of strap to keep it out of the way?

Also, does anyone know of a similar product that doesn’t have these issues?

Thanks!

My girlfriend is about 5’2" and had no issues, the buckle sat above her waist, so unless you’re significantly less than 5’ tall I wouldn’t expect any ‘fit’ issues.

The other issues here are user error; The supporting strap should be positioned in the buckle while you’re standing next to the item to be moved with your knees bent. When you stand, the weight of the item will first ‘set’ the strap in the buckles, then the movers will lift with their legs. If you do that, reach will never be an issue, and the item won’t be able to slide on the strap. Balancing/steadying a load is something that requires some degree of coordination, but unless you’re trying to move something that’s really oddly shaped and/or top heavy, any mostly sober person should probably be able to handle it. If you’re using these properly, it’s impossible to bear any of the weight on anything but your legs, so virtually no actual effort is required to balance the item. I have pretty poor balance and hand eye coordination overall, and I’ve had no issues.

For going up or down stairs, you need to stop with the item at the start of the stairs and adjust the strap length to account for the additional difference in height that the movers will experience. If you don’t, the load won’t be evenly distributed, and since the weight of the load is what locks the strap in place, taking that weight off one side means the strap on that side might come loose.

For the extra strap length, tossing it over your shoulders and/or the item you’re moving should be sufficient to keep it out of the way. If you were really worried about it falling down and tripping someone, you could roll it up and tuck it into the harness, but again, I am far from the most coordinated person in the world, and I never had an issue just looping the extra over my shoulders.

Lowes delivery brought my dryer in using something similar. Blew my mind, had never seen it done that way before.

On point 1. It is adjustable. It’s important to put it on correctly. “When all else fails, read the instructions”

On point 2. The strap needs to be the same consistent width, so the load’s weight can be distributet evenly. When well balanced at the start and with the shoulder braces adjusted well, the load is very easy to balance. The person behind the load can keep both hands on the corners af the item and only gently “nudge” it to level position. I am not sure about the grippy liner. The belt is not smooth and the gravity provides additional friction. Too much grip might become a problem if the load needs to be nudged for balance, but is gripped by something that works against the gravity. Maybe the producer has something more of value to be said about this idea.

On point 3. Correct instalation of the harness, in my opinion and experience, precludes a possibility of the buckle getting loose. Again, the old joke about the failures and instructions. If it really becomes loose when properly installed,
I would say that the buckle must be defective.
As for the extra lenght of the strap, I just fold it a few times and toss it on top of the load.
